Yep you could

It covers all the plumbing for the AIS which most of us remove. It also directs air to the rear cylinder. It doesn't have a filter or anything though.

AIS is air induction system. The bike is tuned for stock pipes. The AIS pumps recirculated air (I believe) back into the cylinders. When you change out pipes to aftermarket pipes you get a lot of popping and backfiring. Removing the AIS pump, hoses etc. and blocking off the ports where it went into the cylinders will eliminate almost all of that. You can get the blockoff plates for 20 bucks, or just make your own out of sheet metal for free.

Once you remove the AIS plumbing, then what is left behind the cover is the engine mount and the dry break (fuel line). You can by a streamlined motor mount from KyleNV, and then buy a nice aftermarket dry break and do a left side clean up, where you basically have a stripped engine on the left side.

Edit: I guess it's actually fresh air (not recirculated) that gets pumped into the cylinder after the exhaust valve. I never really paid much attention I was too busy tearing it out

That would be known as a "BAK" or Big Air Kit.

If you want to read how to do it, and see pictures of what it looks like, click on my link to Redhorse Mods.

Speaking of the "BAK" mod...is it normal to hear a kind of "lobbing" sound from the throttle bodies when giving it some throttle?

Make sure to upload some pics, alot of people including myself just prefer the naked look of the engine without anything covering it

Yeah, I'd say that. Never really thought about it.
