Default American Straights Exhaust get silly hot?

Hey guys, this is my first air cooled bike, and i'm not used to having a bike give out this much heat. Just wondering if its normal for the exhaust pipes to get so silly hot? Just my pants or shoes coming in contact with the pipes puts a burn hole through them and the exhausts are wrapped and its in the 40's F outside. I can't even imagine how hot my ride will be in the summer. They are Hard Krome American Straight Exhausts wrapped.

(if there's already a thread on this and i didn't see it, please point me in that direction, don't mean to clutter up the forum).

They look like the heat shields were removed in order to put the wrap on. I have those pipes with the shields on and they get hot but not "burn a hole in jeans: hot!

thanks Bossman, i looked at your bike and it does seem like yours has some shielding on there that mine definitely doesn't. I'm not sure what i can do at this point to reduce the heat, it is definitely way hotter than i've normally seen before. My pant just touched the exhaust and burnt into a brown patch. Do you think wrapping it some more might help?

I removed the heat shields from my big shots and experienced almost, but not quite the same thing. Had to scuff and paint my heat shields black and put them back on for last season until I add an additional layer of heat shield tape.....

love the chin spoiler btw!!!!

looks like my missing heat shields are whats causing it. For now its okay (not really) but in the summer my leg will evaporate if it accidentally comes in contact with the exhaust. I'm wondering if putting some heat tape on it and wrapping it a second time might do much insulation.

Have my propipe wrapped and all my jeans turn bown where they touch the pipe. Learned quick not let leg get to close after the jeans where smoking one day. Used to it now.

The excess hot temperature of the exhaust pipes could also be a severe lean condition in your fuel injection. The exhaust pipes on my pure stock bike used to get hot and in fact the front head pipe is still dark blue. I installed a PC3 with a much richer fuel map and temperature cooled quite a bit not to mention smooth and crisp performance. The can at one time was so hot that my wife burnt her right leg.
How is your bike from a performance point of view? I would recommend checking your plugs for any lean condition.

thats my plan brother...

I really like the wrapped pipe look as apposed to the chrome or even blacked out look, although for me, the blacked out look heat shields are a better look, depending on the overall scheme of the bike.

the bike has a power commander which was dyno tuned (this is what the previous owner told me). All i know is it has a PC and the power seems alright, i came off a sportbike so im no sure if i can tell the fine differences in performance on this bike to tell if its running properly or not.
