Default Pulley & Drive Tight & Clean

After joining the forum last Oct. and being retired and a lot of time on my hands, I have been reading posts and forums for any possible problems I may come across on my newly purchased ( in Oct) 05 with 12k on it. After reading the posts on the Pulley & Drive Problems last night I got real nervous and went out this morning and pulled the cover, Tight & Clean thank god. I just want to thank everyone on this forum for all the help you provide, if it had been a problem I would have had all winter to fix it. Thanks Again
Will now check it at every oil change

Man, you really are OCD

Does your bike click when you roll it backwards?

Seriously. If so, the belt's too tight...

My 2005 sits in my garage right in front of my desk. I look at it a lot. I usually pick an area and inspect the heck out of it.

It sits outside my shop at work too, so when I go for a cigarette, I stare at it for loose/missing bolts or ???? I even check over my friends bike while out there.

Cannot look enough at these things.....lots of bolts to check and constant diligence is never a bad idea.....

Do I qualify for OCD??????.................lmao

Don't have a desk but I'm sure my riding mower serves the same purpose good place to smoke and look, but sure looks better out in the sunshine

LASTCHANCE .... my .02 and opinion follows:
  • Protect your investment and be proactive by retorqing the pulley nut on your 2005 that way there is no need to inspect at each oil change
    • When the pulley loosens the middle shaft becomes coined from the metal loss and it's down hill from there!

so the age old question Dr. Alan?
whats the right torque spec. The service manual calls for 72ftlbs.

whats the general consensus....cause we all know what happens to an over torqued nut right? like I did on my rear axle, which btw, the manual calls for 110ftlbs. I ended up having to dremel off an axle nut, and replace with brand new....;(
