The new tank. assuming you buy one like I did once, comes as a shell....you will need to move all your parts and pieces from the old tank to the new one.
This site, and ebay, are 2 of the best places to WATCH for a tank....people are selling them all the time! Problem is, PAINT....if you want it to match your bike, well....then your chances get a little more tricky. OH!, looky here XV1700 RoadStar Midnight Warrior Fuel Gas Tank | eBay Hmmm, as a painter, looking at the scratches on this tank it's hard to tell, but sanding and buffing (or just some plain rubbing compounds and final buffing might get you home clear on this one. if those scratches are down to the primer, well, it's paint time again.... How bad is your tank? shoot us some close up pictures....I paint and do body work. How serious is this?? Quote:

the smaller cover under the fuel tank.. that is also scratched....what does that cover? Is there a aftermarket replacement that is ether OEM or something then the stock cover that would look better or can replace that?

The side cover is your AIS cover which is plastic. it covers things like your fuel line dry break, your fuel pressure regulator and all the AIS plumbing. Same sources to replace. Given it is plastic, that will require some sanding, and maybe a little polyester/bondo finishing coat, unless the sand gets it nice and smooth. Then prime and paint.
The tank looks savable to me. I've had the same thing happen to my bike as well, back in the day of course.... Did you remove, or did you destroy your tank emblem? and would you be replacing it with an OEM emblem? |

I have to ask....have you gone through your insurance on this? and if not....is it even an option? cause s/h to and from my shop might make you think twice about shipping it to me.
I suggest you go to a local UPS store, and ask for a price on packaging and insurance for your parts to Oxford, Mass. Bring the parts with you cause they need to measure and weigh it. pm me with your shipping costs and if it's managable for you, then you can pm me and we can go from there. |

I shipped a large box recently and found FedEx much cheaper and faster. If you can get a box or make it and have the dimensions you can get shipping prices online from UPS, USPS, or FedEx. Using their packing and box $$$$$$$$
