That is the question...my last bike was a Crotch Rocket so there wasnt a lot of chrome our flashy metal things, so when I put it away for the winter I never covered it up and 20 years later it still looked like it did new! The warrior however is a different animal...I bought a cheapo cover off Ebay and I was debating about putting it on this winter, but I am wondering if that might do more harm then good, I am afraid that the cover might hold condensation/moisture in? Is this a viable concern? The bike is stored in an unheated garage on a piece of carpet, but a wet salty car is pulled in and out of the garage all winter long. I also keep my 60 Chevy in this garage uncovered and it does not seem to have any corrosion issues! I basically want to cover the bike to keep it clean of dust and dirt but if the cover is going to do harm it's not worth it!
What do you all think? Thanks in advance, Mike |

I bought a 87 Shadow a few months back had been in a barn covered for four years, according to owner was nice when put away. All chrome was pitted any aluminum had a coat of grey crud that took days to clean. Also bought a Magna a couple years back sat in an open shed 12 years no cover and it was in much better shape than that Shadow. So you decide, if it were me I'd throw a blanket over the top leave the sides exposed and clean it in the spring.
? Cleveland or ?? I went to Mentor HS back in the day Last edited by LASTCHANCE; 12-13-2012 at 12:15 PM. Reason: after thought |

yamaha makes a nice dust cover that stretches over the top to keep dust off your paint and what not. If its stored inside I would just throw one of those over it. Or a blanket like lastchance suggested.

Yep...that sounds like a plan guys...I will throw an old sheet over the top just to keep the dust off of her! @lastchance I am in a suburb of Cleveland called Garfield Hts.
Thanks for the info guys! |

Hey in the Spring when you unpack it and fire it back up let us know how it turned out. In fact, do and experiment. Take a pic or two of the paint, chrome, etc. before storing and then one in the Spring when you take her out. Compare the before and after photos so we can learn from what you are doing here. Sounds like a plan to me.

Maybe soak it down with some silicone spray. might help, I don't know. I live out in the desert, it doesn't rain. Actually it is raining today.

If its going to be in a garage I dont see a need for a cover.

I had one of those 70's era really soft quilts that no one was using covering mine in the garage. I generally only do it in the winter months, as I like to sweep up at least every other week. Works great

I keep my bike in a wooden shed with a wood floor when not in use. For the winter I wipe down the bike with a coat of WD40 and cover it with 2 military type wool blankets. Come spring, I wash the bike down. I think the WD40 helps.

0Gravity ... my .02, opinion & hands-on ... cover or no cover the bike will sweat based on your OP depending on the dewpoint and sudden change in temperature (Delta T) ... protect your investment with wax, polish etc.
