I think the hooks were intended to hang a ladder. They're about 3/8"-1/2" thick roundbar covered in rubber. Just make sure to screw the 2x4 to the studs and don't over drill the pilot holes for the hooks to screw into. Holds the lift nice and secure. I just drop the handle down between the wall and the lift, the bend in it keeps it there.
