Worked with some of you 07-08 OIF. Good group. Went to the shop today but for got my camera. He did show me the "ring" half the teeth were worn out and the pulleys inside "teeth" were badly worn. He told me that the Nut was finger tight holding it on when he took it apart. Thank you for your advice on the belt. Went on amazon and found everything I needed but a replacement shaft at less than a third of what they were asking just for parts. He said I may be able to get away with just the pulley and belt but he wants to see how/if there is any play when he mounts the pulley.
They quoted me at 10 labor hours if he has to do the shaft, pulley and belt replacement at their shop. ($950) Pretty comfortable that I could do the pulley and belt on my own but if the shaft is needed, well not so much. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

I bought an 07 middle gear shaft and everything that goes with it to change out my 05 one to the newer model to get away from the 02-05 set up. There is a member that has done this already so if you do a search you can find all of the part #'s you would need to get for the newer model. just a suggestion since you are having to change it out anyway. I haven't changed out mine yet because it has not messed up since i re-tightened it the last time but when it goes out i am ready.

Are you trying to figure out if the shaft wobbles? Start it up and put it in gear with no pulley. You should be able to see any deflection when it's running.

If it's just the pulley and belt, you should be able to do it -although you have to remove the swing arm to do it. Not hard, you can read up on it in the popular mods section. That's where they're charging you the labor. Cuz then you have to remount the tire and realign everything.

But first I'd see if you have a wobbly shaft.

Are you Army, Marines or what exactly? Just curious. I retired in 07...

Gilly thanks for the idea I'll look into it. Do you recall the posters name?
Ill try getting back to the garage tomorrow. If there is no wobble Im a just take it back to the shack and try it out myself. thanks for the Swing arm heads up.
Thanks for all the help.

The posters name was minus4. Type in newer middle shaft in older bike and you should find everything you need.

So I went to the BBB about my issue. Yamaha got a hold of me and this is what they are trying to work out. Ive never heard of anything like this and was hoping some of you could give me your opinions of it. They said they will buy all parts and pay for any labor after first 5 hrs. That includes shaft belt pulley oils and gasket. My 5hrs will cost 400 and change. I believed this sounds very reasonable but its on the condition that I sign a complete and total Liability waiver. Meaning I get the bike back and it craps out pulling out of the drive way its on me. I'm torn between wtf you have that little faith in your motorcycle and your ability to repair it that you want to totally remove all connection and liability to it knowing its issues. I love my bike don't get me wrong, but it makes me second guess if I even want to keep it. Then on the other side take the deal get my bike back and be happy they did anything. The whole contract thing sounds different to me to Ive had recall work done on cars and trucks ive owned and never had to sign a liability waiver. Thoughts???

That is a tough call. I bought a late model, so I may not have any problems like your problems. I checked out this webste before I bought and knew of recalls, but did not realize the total number or recalls.
If I think I have been shafted by anyone/anything, I cut my losses, and they or it are in the rear view mirror.
HOWEVER, if you get a bunch of work done, parts and labor, for 400 bucks, then I might not consider that as being shafted. If you REALLY like the bike, keep it. If you do not REALLY like a Warrior, then get it fixed, sell it, and get something else.
Oh and Yamaha has the waiver to cover their ass. Just be dam sure it is fixed right!
