Default V-rod headlight swap

8/13/12 Update.
I have completed the final install (included pics below) of the headlight and couldn't be happier with how clean it is. The wires are COMPLETELY hidden and it almost looks like the headlight is just floating there.

Remove your headlight and all mounting brackets. If you really want to go for the custom look, relocate the tach. to under the seat and internally wire the frame both mods can be found the DIY Mod List. I have attached a link for relocating all the factory wiring into the factory air box on the ride side of the bike for those who don't like the idea of cutting into the frame.

Relocate the wiring into the coffin (air box) Wiring relocation to the coffin

1. buy a set of Protek 54mm fork tube clamps. I got mine off Ebay for $25.00 a piece.

2. I bought an aftermarket Vrod headlight.

3. get a set of 8mm bolts with long necks on them (area without threads) and cut off the bolt head.

4. get a thick washer and put a flat spot in it (like a flat tire)

5. weld the washer so the base of the washer is at the top of the bolt threads

6. screw the bolts into the clamps. You will notice a lot of thread sticking out of the bottom side of the clamp. Mark the threads where the begin to stick out and remove the bolt. BEFORE TRIMMING, screw a nut onto the bolt. Now trim the threads and work the nut on/off the trimmed end of the bolt to clean up the threads.

7. screw the newly made bolt brackets into the fork tube clamps 1st... then bolt the headlight to the newly made bolt brackets.

8. Now, the Vrod headlight has 3 bulbs, so simply connect the low beam to the "'running light" wire and match the high beam with the high beam.

UPDATE 8/13/12 FINAL INSTALL
I wanted a cleaner look than just a washer welded onto a bolt. So I got a piece of scrap steel the same thickness as the bolt and just made a horse shoe shape plate to weld to the bolt instead of the washer.

I like the way it looks also, I think it gives a nice slope to the front.

The look has it's merits. However, it is not Warrior. Don't get me wrong. I've been debating a VRHL for some time, because it is a cool look. I have come to appreciate the Warrior design as a design more than worthy of respect by all. I will continue to emulate Warriors, and the innovations of Warrior tradition.

Ya I'm a little late with the write up. With the build on hold I figured I'd catch up on the "how to's".

I would still like if you could write up a "how to" for your headlight. Yours may be more favorable for the fact you don't need to re-route all the wiring.
