Default Help please, oil drain plug won't budge

1st oil change on my 600 mile '09 Warrior. The oil pan (rear) plug came out as expected. The front one will not budge. There was only clearance for an open ended wrench, but that started to round the corner of the bolt so I backed off. Any advice on removing that bugger. (I tried asking nice, and then swearing at it neither approach helped)

The correct bolt allows a 17mm box end to fit on nicely. I have shorty wrenches so I have swing.

If you are having trouble getting it off. Try on a cold engine instead of hot, just might give better results. If it starts to come loose, stop and warm her up and get to drainin'

Grind the closed end flat on both sides of the wrench and it should slip on

One of our Forum members(G) posted a wrench mod. Look for wrench mod in the search section. I had the same problem, bolt would not budge and if you tried to hard the wrench would begin to slip and harm the bolt head. I filed down a 17mm box end wrench on both sides and around the outside and it worked like a charm. The wrench fits like it should once it is filed or grind ed down.

I use a cheap AutoZone 17mm box end, it is thinner than lots of the quality tools. Also been told a Craftsman will work too without any grinding.

Try using a single hex socket not the twin hex on open end wrenches as this will give you more surface area on the flat and corner. Sometimes trying to tighten first then back off works as it breaks the surface tension. Good luck mate.

I did like one of the others. Just buy a cheap open end/box end wrench and grind it until it fits. I used the box end and ground it down. It will save from ruining the plug or busting your knuckles.

You mean a 6 point as opposed to a 12 point?
