Default Downshifting wearing out clutch

I'm starting to feel a bit of clutch slip when accelerating hard (WOT). When the tach hits the power band around 3k-3.5k is when I notice it in 4th and 5th only. While riding normally I do not notice it at all.

Over the summer I've been downshifting more and more. Love the feel, love the sound, love the ability to instantly accelerate again if i need to, just plain fun. Now, having done so for about 3k miles, I think its causing additional wear on my clutch.

I have about 17k on the clock so far, when does the clutch typically need to be replaced? Is this normal?

I am at the same miles you are and have down shifted the whole time I have had the bike and no slipping yet. I also go to the drag strip and at times ride the wheels off it with no clutch issues. What clutch spring are you running? I know the early Barnett spring requires some maching done or clutches do start to slip early.

I noticed some clutch slipping few weeks back. I have about 43 500 miles on right now.
I was planning to had the clutch opend up next spring. I would think that the clutch should at least last that 45 000 miles or so.. imo.

They all get slippy around 20k, yours might be a lil early. Mind telling us what kind of oil you run.

And

As others have said... Get the Barnett.

Mines starting to do the same in 4th and 5th WOT, but I do have 50,000 miles on the stock clutch. I have always used the gears to slow me down. Guess its time for the Barnett!

I always thought that using the car oil is a big no no because of the wet clutch on the bike. Something about the friction modifiers I think. Don't want to start a which oil to use war, but maybe that is your problem.

Rob, mine was slipping a bit at WOT in higher gears..I adjusted the clutch and changed the oil and it has gone away. I don't have the mileage you do, but it isn't slipping now..I need to do the barnetts..maybe this winter..
