No mods, and recently replaced the fuel joint, however it was doing this before the fuel joint replacement..

Also check lean angle sensor, side stand, rectifier wires. Put a little dab of dielectric grease on the connectios.

Also make sure your cps recall was done.

I also like to check the tank vent lines too
Sounds good, and thanks.... this is what weekends are for...lots of tinkering.

Not sure of any visuals, but none that come to mind stood out when I looked down at the meters... and that was just a sample speed thanks...

How To: Disable Lean Angle Sensor (07-08) R1 - Yamaha Forum : Your Yamaha Motor Products Community & Resource
When the LAS shuts-off the fuel I was thinking the rpm falls to zero?

[Added: srwarrior, see manual page 1-16 to follow what we're talking about]
It does not fall to zero. With his current miles I would almost guarantee the Lean Angle Sensor if all recalls have been done. The Lean Angle Sensor is behind your horn at the front pulley. Pop the horn off. Remove the nut holding the bracket for the LAS. Break down the LAS. And put the tiniest dab of super glue on one of the pivot arms to hold it in place. The pendulum will not swing now. Reassemble and go for a cruise. If problem is solved then you can make the decision to replace or leave it be. This is a ten minute operation. If you search for LAS in the forum you will find a thread with a link to an R1 forum with great pics of the switch. I went nuts trying to figure this problem out and the fix is truly simple. Try this first. If the problem persists you can go back in the LAS and break the dab of super glue so your switch works normally. The tiniest dab is key. You can check my thread "please help diagnose" to verify symptoms.

The symptom of being able to shift and the throttle come back to life is the key telltale for the LAS problem. As well the speed it occurs. Identical to my initial symptoms. I think as the pivot arms wear a bit and the harmonics the warrior produces at around that speed the sensor pulls back away from the sensor pickups tricks the sensor into thinking the bike is tipped when actually it is shifting towards the rear of the bike.
This sounds like you have really researched this problem, so I'mma start there and post back after I've had the chance to do so. Thanks for posting, and I sure hope this cures her ills.

here is a link to my thread if you are interested in my trouble shooting ect.

2002 warrior won't start after quitting in middle of road

if this sounds like your issue you might want to order the part I did and see if it fixes it, its a whole lot easier than pushing the bike up hill / having it die on the highway at rush hour.

best of luck and let us all know what the problem finally turned out to be.
Never had the neutral light come on outside of neutral.... and I sure as **** don't want to get caught pushing a Warrior paper weight. thanks and I'll keep y'all updated.

Note in the thread loss of throttle response all the typical CPS, battery, coil suggestions were there but the fix for him as well as myself was the LAS. The symptoms are just spot on for your prob. I remember just hamering down the highway at about 85 on the speedo and she just cut out. All electrics going just zero throttle response. I would downshift and bang instantly back to life. Didn't make any sense. I ignored it for a while because the shift "fix" still allowed me to ride. Problem is it will start to happen more frequently and in lower gears at lower speeds. Not the confidence booster you need when you want to hit that gap or merge or you're hot rodding it with a buddy and your bike is cutting out. It is a very easy fix. Good luck.

I have to admit I do like 4's LAS diagnosis and fix and remember when he 1st posted it.

I had the exact same thing happen, rolling down the highway at 85 and then dead engine.

I thought for sure it was the CPS, Flip the kill switch, drop the clutch, engine came back to life.

I was in a panic, cause I was leaving for a 3000 mile ride in 2 days.

The 4m came to the rescue with the suggestions I posted.

I'm not sure which one fixed it, cause I did them all, at night with a flash light in a dirt parking lot.

I did notice the 4 little coil wires were not snug on the coils and I think that was the real culprit, but again I am not positive. Be carefull with those tabs they bend very easy.

This is the answer you seek. Pull the tank and remove the two spade connections from the coils and give them a little squeeze with some pliers until they go back on with some resistance.
