silly question: do you have to rake out the front to fit a 21? Has anyone done it?

i wonder how that would look...

baclay's ride is SICK!

You should rake if you inlarge the front wheel so that the bike sits level again. There are several diagrams "on rake and trail" that you can do a search for. I raked my bike and lowered the rear to compensate but it still doesn't ride like the stocker.

  1. How exactly does it change the ride? better ? worse?
  2. Why does raking it and changing the wheel size impact ride?
  3. Can it be done without a negative impact on ride?
I'm apparently full of questions...

I second that

Plus if it had to be raked whats the least you have to rake the front end fir a 21 to fit?

In regard to the 21" front wheel, I think if you did the forks sticking out the top if the trees lowering trick it would help with the stance & cornering. It would have that "kicked in the face" look of the Sportster, big wheel crammed in kind of look. Shag seemed to have little trouble with handling the 21" on his Harley.

You can install the morton 7 degree trees and run a 21" wheel because it uses 2" extensions to level the bike and that gives you room for the 21". The trail is reduced and therefore makes your steering a little floppy or loose feeling. Raking the frame brings the trail back to within stock specs and makes the bike ride more like stock except your turning radius is a lot wider. Rides better on the highway but not so in town. I am buying the mortons trees this month or next so i'll see how much different it is.

I'm sure the car tire doesn't contribute to that

Its a shame those after market sexy 21" wheels are so expensive. I was hoping to find something from another bike that fits by lucky chance perhaps.

I used the Morton's 7 degree, but didn't use the extensions and it rides like it is stock.
