So since Sandy, my building's garage hasn't had power & they manually opened one door so people could still come and go. Needless to say, I've become very suspicious of unfamiliar faces I've seen in there. What I didn't know is that tenants from the lower garage whose cars weren't flooded have been allowed to park upstairs, so there've been a lot of unfamiliar faces. So....the other day I'm parking the Jeep (Warrior parks in the area right in front of my truck) an I see a few guys about 60 feet away clustered around my buddies car....immediately suspicious, right? I finish pulling in, leaving about 6 inches between the truck & the bike, like always. Well, these guys had a little too much of my attention and I took my foot off of the brake without putting it in park. Drifted forward just enough to turn m head and see old girl tipping over in what looked like slow motion. I jumped out (after putting the truck in park) and got her up right away. From what I can see in my headlights (no power), the only damage is a lightly scratched exhaust and grip end, along with my right foot controls seem to be pushed up a bit. Still very rideable, but needs fixing. My rear brake doesn't seem to be depressed, but my brake light is on (I think it's pushed in enough to trip the brake light switch). I can go the scratches easily enough. Any suggestions on how to bend the controls back down? I would estimate they were pushed up under an inch. I'll try and post pics later on, once I get her out in some light

Bending them back might work but chances are you could create too much stress on the part and C_R_A_CKKKKKK.......
If that don't work look into finding some cheap stock replacements. Just saw some on Ebay going really cheap last night. |

Thanks. I'm gonna give it a go tonight at work. I'm just glad that was the only damage. I'm sure it could've been much worse

SLOW SLOW SLOW.....
If you have access to a vice, wrap up the part with some rags to prevent scratching....and I would go very slow.....I've done much worse to me levers, and put them in the bench vice and was able to save them enough until I could afford to replace them. Quote:

You can heat it up, some say put motor oil on where you want to bend it and when it starts to smoke its hot enough. This supposedly anneals it and makes it easier to bend. let it cool first, don't bend hot and then put it in a vise like G said and bend it slowly.

Got her out in the light & realized its pushed up much less than I thought. I'm not even gonna mess with it. My one prob is my brake light just isn't working. Tail light is on, but no brights when I brake (neither front or rear). Gonna pull the tail light at work tomorrow and check my connections & fuses. Anything else I should check?

You sure the brake light isn't always ON? I had that problem -thought I didn't have a brake light, and finally realized that the switch on my handlebars wasn't engaging properly, it was always pushed in. Maybe you have something similar on the footpeg.

FINALLY got around to sitting down and getting dirty with this. Long story short. Brake pedal adjustment & reattached the red wire at the rear that had broken off.....problem solved 😁. Thanks all for trying to help!
