Roughed up both surfaces, cleaned them well and applied some JB Weld. Have not had any issues since!

Scary problem that most don't know about....
Thanks for the reply....I searched the thread looking for others but I guess the terms I was using (fuel leak, filter assembly, etc) never brought me to your post. I was wondering if it was just a defect in the one I had, guess this answers it. Looks like it is a repeatable failure.

Actually a few other members posted that they had the same problem when I posted it.

Fuel Connections

Should be on everyone's maintenance check list...

I have seen this on bikes, cars, lawnmowers, etc. Not just gas but also coolant leaks.
With age and vibration the "press fit" will eventually back off or loosen.
If the hose connection is old and tight, I will not twist, but try to pry the hose back a lil before applying much twisting torque.
I have used the "rough up" method of repair mentioned above and also the "press" method for repair.

I have the Yamaha Customer Relations number. 1-800-962-7926. If it is not the same number you have, you might give it a try. It's been a while since i used it.

My 02 did the same thing about three or four years ago. Somewhere, on some thread I spoke of it, but you did a much better job with the vid. Thanks.

I had the same issue with my '02 this past summer. I scuffed the brass piece and used a hard rubber mallet to pound it back in. To be safe I ordered a new one and replaced it before my TN trip, but the repaired one did not leak. The replacement part is fairly cheap and it gave me more ease of mind on my trip.

Thanks for the heads up. I will keep an eye on mine. Being lit on fire is not something I care to repeat again.

+1
anyone have an idea if it can be fixed - maybe JB weld? or welding using a gas welder and some brazing rod
