Default WARNING - Another Type of Fuel Leak, If you Own a Warrior Please Read

Hey guy/gals, I recently noticed some discoloration on my forward controls that lead me to a dangerous fuel leak. I never saw puddled fuel or had any other indication of the impending failure. I've seen a few other posts with guys wondering why they have a "wet" filter assembly on their tank...I think this will answer it.

Rather than make a long writeup that might miss the point, I put together a short YouTube video showing the failure. I'd encourage any Warrior owner to check their filter assembly as mentioned in the video to be sure it is not defective.

Well done,

Will check this weekend.
If there are many issues like this, then might be worth while to contact Yamaha for a 're-call' ????????

Good catch. That could have been a real problem. Are you going to try a fix, or just replace it? My bike is almost 8 years old so mine must be good. No leaks. Thanks for the heads up.

I purchased a new one and notice the nipple is a different color (or material, not sure if the old one was coated steel or brass). Not sure if it is coincidence or if Yamaha knows something and is not telling.

I contacted the NHTSA and filed a complaint. I'm not the first to file a complaint on fuel leaks but the first with the fuel assembly issue so most likely this will get no attention from them.

I'm also trying to get in touch with Yamaha Customer Service if anyone has a contact other than just the general toll free number, I'm all ears.

There was no gas smell? Something to keep an eye on.

Wow! That is a good catch. This needs to be added to az's leaking fuel tank thread.

I had this happen on mine a few months ago and posted some photos on it. I had just washed the bike and was drying things off and hit the hose. It literally just fell out of the connector fuel flowing quick as I quickly fumbled to put it back in. Never leaked so I did not even know this was a problem. Roughed up both surfaces, cleaned them well and applied some JB Weld. Have not had any issues since!

Scary problem that most don't know about....

Interestingly I guess there could have been an added gas smell, problem in my case is the motorcycle is stored in a garage with a boat and lawn mower. The lawn mower almost always has a little gas smell on it's own so I didn't notice it.

Until you pull out the nipple, the leak is very slow. As I mentioned, there was never a noticeable puddle.
