Default handlebar internal wiring crimp vs solder for extensions

Most of the threads ive come across say to solder. Is there a reason that crimp on connectors shouldnt be used for the extensions?

1. Reliability! These connections are vital.. crimps can come apart and corrode, solder that's been heat shrinked doesn't.

2. Space. The solder and heat shrink really doesn't take up any more room than the wires, the crimp connectors take up a lot more space. This is really critical if you're internal wiring your new bars!!

If you're gonna do it, solder and use the marine grade heat shrink with the adhesive lining. If you don't know where to get that, go to Sherco Auto Supply He's a local supplier that I buy my tubing and other stuff from. The adhesive lining permanently seals out all moisture and contaminants and keeps the wires from corroding.

Good luck!

Ahhh thank you for the link. I had planned to heat shrink everything but didn't know about the adhesive kind! Thanks!

Space constraint is the main thing. It is a pain to feed through the bars. The thinner your connections are, the better.

It you can't get it, regular heat shrink is fine. It just needs to keep moisture out, it does not need to be water proof. Unless you are doing a submarine mod, you should be fine!

PS I am an licensed electrician so I know what I am talking about.
