Default F350 powerstroke question

9,400 miles on it now. When can I expect to get a message telling me to drain the water seperator in the fuel line?

I drain mine every 5000. Why wait for the indicator? What if the indicator is broken? It only takes a few minutes to do.

I'll drain it tomorrow! Thanks for the advice. Yup, every oil change from here on out, it gets a drain out.

depends on your area and the fuel quality.... mine has only come on once in 3 years, then again i live in sunny florida, in tampa where we have a pipeline from the gulf

i really dont worry about it to much.... maybe i should. i like the idea of the oil change, i will have to work that in

Jeff (needanewscooter),

Here is something else that might be useful. Its a Water Separator Drain Plug Upgrade. It replaces the stock water seperator drain plug and replaces it with a drain plug with threaded non-slip grooves. It makes it so you dont have to use the 6mm hex key to remove the plug - you just tighten/loosen it with your fingers. The new plug still has the 6mm hex in case it winds up being a pain in the butt. It makes the draining of the water separator alot easier.

There is a picture on the link that shows the side-by-side of the two plugs. The tiny original plug is on the right in the pic. BTW, The plug works great!!

Here is the link (the part numbers are on the link):

Hope this helps!!

Warrior Dave - thanks, I was going to ask about the stock plug on my next trip to the Ford dealer. My point was that the owners manual shows a lever that of course doesn't exist when you climb under the truck and look at it. Then, being an American made vehicle (although I did have my doubts) I estimated the allen wrench to be 1/4"...DO'H, back to the tool box for the 6mm....DO'H, the short leg is still too long to fit into the hex hole with the front drive shaft being so close to it..back to the shed and use the cutoff wheel on my 6mm allen wrench,,,there that works nice now...But this finger screw will be THE BEST!

Jeff,

The bottom end of the motor is basically made by International.. BTW, If you are looking for cheaper Fuel Filters, go into a part store which specializes in Diesel Motors and tell them you need a Fuel Filter for a International VT-265 motor. Its a V-6, but it uses the same lower parts as the 6.0L Turbo Diesel.

The 6.0L Diesel in the Ford is basically made by International.
