The top pic reminds me of the time I visited the Victoria and Albert museum in London. In there they have several large rooms full of life size plaster reproductions of famous works of art. 'David' was one of them.
I wandered around the back to look at the reverse side and there, hanging on the base, was a framed three dimensional fig leaf about a foot across. Underneath was the legend which went something like this: "Last used in 1911- when the royal ladies came to visit". Now I can't look at one of the greatest sculptures in the world without thinking of that big fig leaf hanging in front of that little pecker, protecting the 'royal ladies' from harm. |
