Default Just missed me....

Yesterday....

My friend Adam (650 V Star Yamaha Bobber.) & his buddy Ryan (a Kawasaki) met me at the house and we ate at Great Scotts. Then left there to meet 4seeaye in Morrison. We turned left on Rooney from Colfax to take that little frontage road up to the gas station by Bandimere Speedway.

It was a 19 year old kid and his 17 year old girlfriend in a white sedan. They were quite shaken up. I don't think texting was involved, but I am not sure. I flew by very quickly and saw them pull out and hit Adam right behind me in my mirror. Ryan was behind Adam, he went sideways a minute but regained control and skid right inbetween where Adam eventually landed and the car. I locked up my rear tire and turned around... almost didn't put down my kickstand, called an ambulance while we tried to keep Adam lying down and not moving. Which was difficult, he was quite out of it, so I talked him through it while holding his neck still. He was bleeding pretty good from his temple, the bridge of his nose, and his arm under his leathers was as well. I knew right away his lower leg was broken by how he was moving it (it ripped the bumper off the car).

Luckily a nurse stopped with her bag and helped (wish I would have gotten her name). I picked up his bike and moved her... gas was spilling everywhere as we had just filled up. Police and Ambulance got there very quickly thank goodness. I helped his get his leathers off while they stablized him as he was screaming for them to please not cut his leathers...

They took him and I stayed with the police. My nephew brought his truck to take Adams bike to my garage, then went to the hospital. His ankle is broken and will need screws, and he is banged up but ok.He was in a lot of pain but I am so glad... he could have been far worse.

I was pretty shaky riding home from the mountains by myself, of course I felt like all the cars around me the entire way home were going to cut me off or hit me. But by the time I was a few miles from my garage I was much calmer and it surprised me how she and the beautiful fall leaves comforted me.... Ryan was thinking he would leave his bike at the hospital as he didn't want to ride home. I'm glad I did.

Please take extra care everyone. Holy Shiz!

Wow, so glad to hear he is going to be ok, you're right, could have been much worse. So sorry to hear this, I hate hearing this kind of stuff. Glad you were able to ride back and see some positive things. Anything we can do? Cards? Bike parts?

Thank you! And I'm not sure. I might ask for some advice about the bike after she gets looked at. He will not be walking for quite a while, so maybe there will be things I can work on that will help

Prayers sent out to all of you!

I had a run-in with a kid in a truck last year. Totalled my bike, but I walked away with just some scrapes, bruses and lost my small toe...
I guess it's not really lost, I know where it is....

It went to market!

Anyway, I pray he heals up pretty fast and you all get comfortable riding again!

God Bless,
Doc S (formerly of Durango Colorado)

Wifey and I send our best wishes to Adam and his family, and also to both you and Ryan because witnessing the event is traumatic too. I'm glad you got right back in the saddle, that was smart imo. Hope Ryan did too but sounds like he might have elected a different way home. I don't have any VStar 650 parts but because one of my brothers has a 650 Classic I have a pdf of the original factory service manual if helpful I can email it. It seems like putting a bike back together while healing would make the healing go faster! Also, good job Sherri you got help coming and thought of everything and stayed cool.

Best of healing to Adam and wishing him a full recovery. Sounds like that accident could have been much worst.

When you have a close call as such and witness it it does scold you with a true sense of insecurity for quite some time. A riding buddy of mines was hit, dragged and killed by a drunk driver while we were out cruising and it took me a longggggggg time to get over that day and I still sometimes struggle with that demon.

It sounds like all of our nightmares. There is no way to be ready for someone to just pull out into you. Not even in front of you, but into you! He even has nice loud pipes. I hope he heals quick with minimal pain.
