Right on BTK!!!!!
The JB WELD kind of acted more like a "bondo", in terms of it's holding strenght, Well in as much as it seemed solid, I had to use a tiny hammer/chisel to break loose wear the panels me...after that, I used a cheese grader type file to remove the high build JBWELD, then 80grit paper back to bare metal. So I am tossing the JBWELD idea, and talking with HYDRO regarding a METHACRYLAYTE type panel bonding compound. WHich actually caused the to substrates to kind of melt together (that's HYDRO words, not mine) thanks HYDRO, we need to talk soon.g Quote:

so I pulled the trigger and hit a local paint shop for the 3M 08115 panel bonding adhesive. THIS STUFF IS GOLD!!!!!!!!
tank stretch cone is on and being shaped to form to the tank. 4 years worth of paint coming off, layer by layer by layer by freaking layer!!!!!! |

Man, what a job!!!!!!
![]() at 1st, I started sanding.....and NO DANG WAY WAY THAT GONNA HAPPEN. I happen to have some stripper layin around. Acts alot like AIRCRAFT STRIPPER ........made it much easier.....but 4 layers is a lot of paint. This is one of the draw backs to doing the old "scuff and spray".....and I have done 4 of them to this tank. Almost there.....getting ampped up for body work next... |

Wow, looking at all the work you have done this far helps many a greenhorn better understand why body shops and customizers charge so much money! Good luck.

and more progress....
I'm using the black/dark grey primer as a "guide coat".....this shows any imperfections when sanding, the lows will show up as black spots. Also, just a note about the "cone" added for the stretch affect. Man the hardest thing was to get this piece to lay tight and flat to the contour of the tank. The "trouble areas are the to sides closest to the bottom edge of the tank. I'm gonna need to do some additional filing and grinding to lower those a bit more, but overall, coming right along.

D*amn that looks good. Never thought of painting the swingarm like that before. Stretched tank also sweet. I don't see any reason why JB Weld wouldn't be fine. That stuff is the bomb as long as you are not using it for high temp applications.
Keep up the good work! |
