I watched that over and over on youtube, that is one talented driver to save that car! and his ass!!!!

parachutes deployed and stabilized the car... saved his a$$ from high siding / barrel rolling down the lane at 200+mph!

Im tell'n ya, the parachutes are what saved him. Watch 0:45 through 1:50. Parachute deploys and pulls the back end of the dragster inline like the fletchings of an arrow. His front wheels aren't even making contact with the ground (save a few bounces), yet the front is "aimed" down track because the parachutes are pulling the back of the frame. if his hands were off the wheel, it would have ended the same way.

If it were his front wheels "steering" him away from center-line, he would have whipped the back end around so violently that he would have lost it then as well.

I don't discount his driving ability, but dont think his steering input is what kept this from being a horrific end.
