The problem is I really enjoy the illustration and writing part and hate the marketing end which means that I probably won't be hobnobbing with J.K. Rowings or bathing in pink champagne any time soon
That's what publishers are for. Get things going for yourself, get a great publishing company with their own PR firm and you just need to do your thing and show up when/where they tell you!!!!

Unfortunately from all the reading I have been doing on this that is not really true.
First of all, all publishers have stacks of unsolicited manuscripts on their desks. If you are lucky they might decide to pick yours to publish.
If they do, unless you have a track record of selling a lot of books, their marketing will consist of putting you in their publishing catalogue and that's about it.
Why? Just look at how many publishing companies have either gone out of business or been taken over by larger corporations.
It's money, or rather lack of it. They would rather put their cash behind a known name - even if the work stinks - just as big movie studios do, and convince you by the sheer weight of advertising and PR to buy their product. And a lot of the time it works.

Thanks Sherry. I'll be interested to get your reaction to it. If you like it give it a thumbs up on Amazon.
With something like this that is only available through an online bookstore it is going to succeed or fail on the number of people recommending it to others.
I hope you find it worth recommending

I found the book on the Amazon UK website.

It's only £4.00!

I use Amazon a lot and I have added it to my basket so the next purchase I make will include the book.

I wanted to support your venture Mike - it's a really nice book and a small price to pay.

Music industry is very much the same way. You NEED to get a bit of a following for yourself to get them interested.

The author of 50ShadesofGrey started by writing fan fiction on a blogsite. Then she had a hardcore group of "helpers" who gave advice and helped spread the word and about 2 years later shes picked up by a publisher in Australia. My current GF was one of the "helpers".

Point your GF at 'Maxwell Mouse' and let her rip

I was going to make a comment about how unlikely it might be there'd be much crossover between the two groups, but then I thought about how many suburban housewives are reading 50 Shades... And I bet they need presents for their kids too.
