I'm a tech by job title but mostly I'm a project manager / problem solver. Some is software related, some is networking related, most is putting the right people to the right task at the right time. I can easily run 15-20 open windows at a time across 2 monitors and am VERY busy most of my day at work. When I'm fixing things on mine or my customers systems, alot of my time is at a command prompt. Keyboard shortcuts, .cmd and .bat scripts save me hours a day.

When I went from XP Pro to 7 Enterprise my productivity went in the toilet for 2-3 weeks. I will be pushing 8 back for as long as I can get away with.

I can clearly see the advantages on a tablet...maybe a laptop with a touch screen. But for a work PC that will only ever be used with a keyboard (due to large amounts of data entry) I just don't see any advantages yet.

SiRaDuDe, can you turn off the tiles and use a desktop similar to Winxp/7 with icons? And why would anyone ever NEED the Metro Tiles on a PC? Just curious, not arguing the point.

ya I do a little tech work myself from time to time. Its been my experience its better to stay current so you can help users with issues they might have with new tech. To each his own I guess.

My son just got win 8, and yes you can have the regular desktop without the tiles. Don't ask me how he did it tho.

I use it and it seems ok. I find myself always hitting the windows key in the bottom left corner and switching it back to the old look. Windows 8 active tiles is more like the cell phone and is all based of apps.

Well, I formatted my disk and went back to 7 ultimate. Feels like a computer again not a cell phone.

Windows 8 sucks! They just revamped the look to try to rip off Apple. There are no new features or benefits in it. The only thing new is that you have to re-learn how to navigate everything!

It always pisses me off that when you buy a new computer they force the new OS on you and they don't give you the option of which system you want to use.

Don't get me started on windows 8! That crap crashed my computer so bad i had to send it back to the manufacturer to fix! Good luck booting into safe mode or even better trying to reinstall windows after it locks your hard drive.

Yeah, you can't go back, you have to reformat and start ALL OVER AGAIN! And you're right Wadave, just a different UI.
