Default helmets and being here tomorrow

got to vent- this year on this site there have been to many members that have gone down on there rides. one member is to many!! this is a touchy subject to me due to the fact that i was one of them back in may. and i have just had hopfully my last surgury and that is going to be at least a year before am some what normal. my point is please wear a full face helmet when you ride.i know its your choice but its just not worth
it if that day comes and i hope it dosent!! but i see alot of skull caps or no helmets , yes it freedom but you cant injoy it on a slab sorry to be so blunt but its the truth. i was wearing a full face it saved myface and my life the way that i landed. please be safe

I understand what you mean about half helmets, but I don't think full faced helmets look good at all. The only reason I'd get one is to be able to listen to music better, but other than that I like the wind in my face.

I've worn both this year even though a full face does not look as cool on a cruiser but tend to wear my full face more simply because the thought of going down and whacking my melon is not a good thought.

I have a Bell Full Face Matrix and a Bell Drifter Half helmet. The full face feels better in colder temps like 55 degrees & below and the Drifter feels better during the hotter temp days even though it mushrooms my melon and look somewhat odd up there.

I live in Miami so it doesn't tend to get that cold.

I do understand that I have less protection but I like my half helmet.

Way to reach out Run-

It's gotta be tough recovering from a crash, and yes, we are all glad the full face saved your life and mug.

So, the message is not lost- alot of us have changed our gear (for the safer) this year... call it getting old, or just whatever....

Good luck on your continued recovery!

Full face saved my life in 2011. Iffy whether a halfie would have saved it, but I would have lost at least part of my right ear for sure. I used to wear a skid lid maybe 15% of the time around town, but now only wear the full face.

I don't have a problem with other folks' choices, do whatever you want. I know what works for me.

Way to step up, run, say what you believe! Helmet/no helmet debates are always fun.

I fully agree with Run.

yes, maybe it's true, we are getting older and want to be more on the safety side
this is the reason I wear my shark evoline helmet
in town I wear open face, but out of town with higher speed I close it to full face

I simply love it, maybe it's not as cool like a mushroom, but at least I can combine

and you can close/open while riding

Wear an Arai Quantum ALL the time. Have to wear it here in California. I am sure I would 'push the envelope' sometimes if I did not have to wear it.

Glad you are recovering and thanks for sharing your concerns for us ALL..my big accident was in 1980, no helmet, broke all the bones in my left leg. Wasted a nice 1979 XS1100 Special (I was most bummed by that), ironically, my head was fine (well i think it was/is..lmao)

Remember to laugh, it heals...

Full face for me, all the time. I also prefer a skid lid... I even have a great carbon fiber one that feels like a ball cap... but in the few moments AFTER an accident occurs, and I know im on my way to lay'n it down and God knows what else, I know im going to "PREFER" as much protection as i can jam myself into... but i wont be able to do anything about it then, so i have to prepare and wear in now.

As Run is sharing with us, in the months/years after, it would suck to know that a lot of pain (or worse) could have been avoided by conceding some vanity, in exchange for some sanity.

It's a personal choice for each of us, UNTIL you get into an accident and impose your injuries and recovery (or worse) on your family and friends. Then "my preference" suddenly becomes their reality and issue to deal with.

As a courtesy to them, and myself secondly, I wear a full face MODULAR.

I can pop open the modular at stoplights, gas stations, quick chat or drink etc...

PS - I think my bike is bad-a$$ enough to balance out what ever dorkeyness my helmet brings to the equation!
