Default talking paint......just some things maybe some didn't know

well I'm kind of into painting...which means I'm into sanding, buffing, body work, wet sanding, and all the ins and outs , pros and cons, do's and don'ts, mistakes and victories of painting....on a small scale mind you, mostly my own work.

- did you know, that 1 coat of base black paint on a small cover takes such a small amount of paint it's almost difficult to price? for example. I bet I sprayed less than 3 tbl spoons of black base paint on my 2 side covers (seat lock cover and oil tank cover). Now granted these were "scuff and shoot" jobs, which is just scuffing the clear with 2000grit wet sand paper and shooting the black base over the clear to create a new black base for the flames.....but still....

- did you know that 4 tbl spoons of clear + 1 tbl spoon of activator will lay down 4 total, and maybe even 5 coats of clear on these small covers? 1 tack coat, and at least 3 full wet coats.....less if you like to do a final "flo-coat".

anyway, more tid-bits coming, like wet sanding with 1500 in one direction ONLY!, then 2000 in the exact oppisite direction to make your final buffing a BREEZE....

here's the final clear work on my seat lock cover.

This is a picture, of me taking a picture of my reflection in the final clear coat.....came out really nice.....now it sits and cures for 24 hrs., then wet sand with 2000 and onto Wizards Finish Cut buffing compound, and the final Wizards Shine master

That is tedious detailed work.
I got my first rotary sander polisher for a Christmas present.
Been working on headlamps and makin um shine so my 61yo eyes can see the road.
Also been takin out scratches etc in car paint. Just reduced a nasty scratch in the bumper fiberglass on my vette from previous owner not realizing the front ends are looooong on older vehicles.
Here is my progresion:
sandpaper: 600, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500.
then:
gritty rubbing compound, gritty polishing compound
then:
chemical rubbing compound, chemical polishing compound.
then:
beer, but tonight it is leftover wine from New Years ....

Looks killer! Be careful not to burn the paint while buffing...

Thanks G man!

I've been practicing with the Rattle Can and have been very happy with the results. I've got another dented tank on the way, I feel pretty comfortable with my bondo job on my 1st rattle can tank. I'm gonna be stretching my air compressor, but I'm going for it.

The big problem I had with the rattle can, when the can got low, I had a hard time keeping the flow out of the can even. I'm hopeing with a paint gun it will have a better flow.

I'm going for it.

Very cool factoids! Never knew it was such a small amount of paint. Your flame job is smokin'! Great work!
