I know, I know, no good deed goes unpunished but I did it anyway.
Bike & rider on the side of the road just north of town with a flat front tire so I stop to see if I can lend a hand. Rider is from New Orleans & is up here with his brother to ride the gap while waiting out the hurricane. He is on a Kawa cruiser & his bro is on a Harley. Bro went off to get a can of flat fix so I wait around for him to make sure they get the tire aired up. Turns out the valve stem broke right in the middle, The Kawa rider was fortunate to keep the bike up as the tire deflated quickly. Said he went off the road but he got lucky, the culvert was real shallow & all grass.
I head for the barn to get the pickup which still has the flat bed trailer tagged on, unload a car off the trailer, find the ratchet straps & go back for the bike.
We get it loaded & I start on the Harly rider. " do you want to put the Harley on the trailer also or do you think it will start?" He replies "ah, another Harley joke eh?" Then I tell him I can use low gear in the truck so he can keep up. He thought it was all pretty funny & we had a good laugh over it.
Took the guys to Ed's Cycle in Cleveland TN & they took him right in for a new tire. We exchanged contact info & I have a promise of a steak dinner on Burbon street whenever I get to New Orleans. Beverages included.
