Re: MN, WI riders. Greatest forum of 2008!

Hey guys I need some help.  I have been contacted by a marketing firm in NY that is promoting The new Victory Vision.

They are looking for a local person to help with the month long promotion.

I need to sell myself to them with knowledge of local bike events & biker hang outs, bars etc.in the Minneapolis area.

I also need to promote myself  as to why they should choose me for this promotion, in an email that I need to send out right away, I am not so good at expressing myself in writing. any help  or ideas would be great.

If I am chosen to help them with the promotion I would be riding a Vision to local events that they choose & promoting the brand & signing up riders for test rides being held @ Polaris Ind. HQ in Medina, Mn which is less than 10 miles from my home.

This promotion pays well (for me) & would be a lot of fun,  It could also open a few doors for me  as I am looking for a new career.

Send me some ideas right away,

    Thanks, Mike

I have not confirmed it yet, but I am hoping to meet at my brother's place in Shoreview off of 694 and Rice Street.  Since the ride starts at 10am, we should plan on leaving his place no later than 9am to make sure we make get there a little early.  I am hoping in a week, the weather will cooperate and we will get some enjoyable riding in!

    Mike,

let me see how I can help.  As for biker hang outs - there is First Thursday's at Dulano's pizza in Uptown.  This event draws all kinds of bikers and even some scooters.  People meet up there the first Thursday of the month rain or shine...  There are some other events that are held in the cities too that are similar.  A (insert day) of the month hang out that draws in the bikes to meet up and hang out.  I know there is one in Forest Lake at the Culvers, one in Medina, and one in St Paul.

Other hang outs would be Fatboys bar in East Bethel right next to a Polaris/Victory dealer.  Another would be the Whiskey Junction, The Joint, and that other bar on Cedar and Riverside in Minneapolis.  Those bars are by that bike shop that some marketing genius named "The Shop" I bet that toolbox wears Dickies and is covered in tatoos - thanks Recovery Channel... sorry got into a rant there :)

The local American Motorcycle Association district, #23 has a couple of road events on their webpage too, check it out at http://www.armca.org/schedule/rec_new_schedule08.htm

As for promoting yourself in an email, introduce yourself and give a quick summary.  Talk about your passion for motorcycles and where it began.  Talk about how much you like Polaris and how refreshing it is to see another American brand that is changing the market.  List some events you frequent that have motorcycles, like the bike only drags and other events you have attended...  It might help to get in the mindset by reading up on some things professionals have had to say about the Vision.  See if you can find their slogan and work it into your email.  It may sound cheesy, but sales is about selling - start by selling yourself!

Shoot me a call if you want me to read anything for you - my wife is a teacher and a master proof reader too!

From the weather reports, riding isn't looking too good for the weekend. Storm I don't know that we'll get much snow in the cities but just north of here looks to get nailed. Certainly wet enough for me to reconsider getting out tomorrow. Maybe Sunday if ths white stuff is gone and the roads are dry enough.

Someone please tell me this is the last of that white crap for this season. Angry

Here is what I sent. I hope it works.

    Alex,
Thanks for the phone call discussing the promotional event for Victory Motorcycles.

Here is some info on me.

    Michael J Riordan
    10639 Crow Hassan Park Rd.
    Hanover, Mn  55341
    763-528-5023

The last 22 years I worked for one of the larger automotive groups in the Minneapolis area as a Master Technician at several of our new car dealerships.
The automotive sales & service business has been poor here lately & the dealership that I was  at closed its doors Jan 31 2008, & that is why I was browsing
    the employment ads.
When I saw your ad for the motorcycle promotion I thought "what fun that would be" to be able to help promote a product & an activity that I enjoy so much.
And after you told me the manufacturer was Victory I got excited because I have really taken an interest in their bikes the last few years.
Since our conversation I have looked at the Victory Vision more closly on the internet & relized that I really didn't know much about the product. I have a lot more reading to do. I am quite impressed with the product description and all that Victory has to offer on this top of the line motorcycle.

Being that I have spent my whole career as a automotive mechanic I tend to relate more to the technicial aspects of a vehicle & would want to be up to date on the product so that I could field questions with a knowalageable & honest answer.

There is a local Victory dealer  http://www.miesoutland.com/ that brings a trailer & several bikes down to one of the monthly bike nights in Medina Mn on the 2nd Thursday of ea. month & I have spent alot of time talking to them about the product. That same dealer has a very impressive store & I really like how they display thier product.

I really enjoy getting out to local bike nights & attend several a month on a regular basis. One is mentioned above, another is held on the 1st Wednesday of ea. month
during May thru Oct. at a Italian restraunt in St Paul, & another is 1st Thursday of ea. month at a pizza place in Minneapolis.  These events draw a great group of people
that all enjoy socializing & talking bikes. There are also many local bars & clubs that cater to the biker community locally.

I find that the biker community is amazing,  There is such a diverse group of people from all walks of life that will gather together and relate to each other because of their interest in riding motorcycles and to share ideas & offer help to others.
It is also hard to find a more charitable group of people, Most biker events include raising money  for local charities.

I am sure this position creates some liability issues so let me tell you who I am.
48 years old, Held my last job for 22 years before the store closed almost 3 months ago.
I was the Teamster shop steward at the store, Representing aprox. 30 fellow employees.
I have lived @ the same address for 21 years. I am a father of two great kids who live here with their mother & I.
I am a non drinker, non smoker. I am very much a people person & have the ability to relate to most people.
I am an active member of a motorcycle internet forum that has about 14,000 of the greatest members world wide.
    I have a valid & current class A CDL w/motorcycle endorsenent.

I graduated from East High school in Duluth,Mn in 1978.
I graduated from Wisconsin Indianhead Technical Institute in Superior Wi. 1982 with a certificate in Machine Tool Operations

I have a  list of personal & employment references available upon request.

I am very interested in this exciting opportunity  & look forward to discussing this further with you.
If I have left out any info that you need or want please reply & I can get that for you right away.

Thank you so much for your time & interest in me.

    Sincerely

    Michael Riordan

Here is a partial list of local bike events going on during the promotion

I think the promotion starts May 7 & runs thru June 1

I was kinda frantic when I was taking the call & my notes are a mess.

So if those are the dates, Who ever gets the job should find out soon. I have no idea how many people responded to the ad or how many of those were contacted back.

You can bet  that I will post with any news that I get.

Hey Swany, where did you live in Duluth?

I lived on  Woodland  Ave. but I moved from there  about the time you were born. 1982  lol.

Looks like I wont be able to take the boat out till the opener either. Hopefully the ice will be gone by then. Not sure how you guys feel but I am getting tired of this weather we are haveing!

Straight up depression here. Have you noticed when the sun is out and it remotely warm, your mood is very good? I hate to say this but I have a feeling we are in for a rough weather year.
