Default Bondo'd the tank today

After sanding work the other day...I got around to Bondo'ing the dent repair area that I got to be not so deep (got it to a more shallow dent to fill in). Scuffed the dented area nice to give it good tooth for the bondo to adhere to. Used an aerosol wax and grease remover to clean the area and let dry before application of the Bondo. Found out the sides of the 09 tank I bought on Ebay do not have side graphics...the Star logo is actually painted on (saved me the hassle of having to peel off decals).

Mixed Gold Bondo Professional grade filler with one line of red hardener per the instructions. Mixed it up until there were no streaks in the mix and the filler material was all red. Applied the material, never exceed 1/4 inch depth of a layer at a time. I didn't need more than that to apply since I got the dent pulled out a good ways (see my thread for Pop-A-Dent repair kit).

Next I waited about 8 minutes and used the cheese grater (bondo file grater) to take off the high points. Good idea to always build it a little higher than you need so you have material to take off and sand after you grate the bulky stuff off. I used 40, 80 then 180 grit sandpaper to smooth it out and feather. Next step is primer, then base coats and finally a few clear coats and buff/polish. Lots of time in between these steps for proper cure times.

I did put in some good scratches sanding the Bondo, so I have more prep work with some wetsanding with some finer grit to get these scratches fine tuned before I lay down the primer.

I don't know if it counts but I got the number assigned to my bike today from the USFRA and I think it rocks...

6661 or as I think of it Evil 1.

Default Got busy on the primer

Put up some plastic drop covers on a put together tent enclosure I had that I use for camping. Made sure I had my respirator mask on and the garage door open halfway.

Worked out nicely...I just need to stop and fix a few deeper scratches that I do not think additonal coats of primer/filler will fill. Going to sand those areas down and wipe down, then put another 2 coats of primer on. Have the front and rear fender to do yet too (probably should have just hung them at the same time). Then sand and get after the base coats tomorrow.

That is the plan anyway.

***Ended up rethinking some of the deeper scratches and will use 3M spot putty/glaze material since that is indicated to be placed over primer. Not going to bother sanding way down to get it all even (too hard at this point).

Default Smoked some kids

Totally just owned a civic full of kids at a stop light (I know that's not saying much but hey) - that was the first time I had a stop light drag race, it was hilarious I was gone before they even got past the intersection
