So I've got a local bike that has a good title but was layed down on it's left side. Says it won't come out of gear so he can't crank it. I'm hoping to get it for $1000. Would I still be able to part it out and make my money back even if transmission is bad or e en the motor? Best case I'm hoping to put a tank on it and open up the case and fix whatever has it stuck in gear.
Tell him to jack up the back and start it in gear. I wouldn't touch it if it doesn't run.
Even if it does run throughly inspect the frame for cracks especially by the neck these are aluminum frames.

I told him to pull clutch and try. Said it dosnt work either. But the display comes on and the bike primes. I was thinking offering $500. And hoping all would turn out in my favor. Could o get 500 back from parting out though?
You should be able to get your $$$$ from it. Like madtom said the frame is aluminum so if the wreck was really bad it might have cracked it. If not then you can make back most of your cash selling a good clean frame for $500.
things that can be sold off or parted out esily are things like seat, swingarm, rims, coils and other electronic equipment, starter, tank if not too badly damaged, footcontrols, etc. should be able to make your $500 back easily.
Ask him exactly what happens after it primes and he pushes the start button.
