280/30/18 or 300/35/18 on 10 inch Rim

Can I run a 300mm /35/18 or any 260mm on 10 inch rim? 3As you may know, the Shinko 300mm is $200 cheaper than the Metzler or Avon. Running a 280/35/18 now. Thanks.

Welcome from out of the shadows! Good to have you here!

You'd need to check the manufacture's specs. I know for Avon's, they have a nice chart that details the rim width range for the various tire sizes. Some will say that if it fits and seals, send it. I tend to err on the side of caution and follow the specs. For the tire you're asking about, I found this on Shinko's website.

For Avon, I found this. Looks like just 280 and 300 tires are ok for 10" rims.

+1 good advice and excellent docs. Too narrow a rim and the tire crowns too sharply and the middle wears flat in a few miles. Too wide the outer wears and cornering sux. It's the tire's construction that matters.

First, thanks for responding. Actually, I've been since I bought my bike nearly 4 years ago. My original username is drebgatx (something like that) Well, I just signed using Google. One day, I'll figure out how to reclaim my old profile... I've been working on a budget. (Arizona knows me) and I try to save as much as I can. I'll try the Shinko 300mm first. Again, thanks.

I can help you with that. We'll chat soon and then we'll get your profiles merged. Watch for a PM in the next few days or so. I'd do it now, but am quite busy with a family trip.

A 300 may cause you other issues such as belt clearance, swingarm clearance etc. If you are running a 280 now maybe best to stick with a 280

Christok, let it be known that I never had the 280mm mounted... just trying to see if i could modify my existing swingarm to accommodate both the 280mm and 300mm because of the price difference. The 300mm tire is cheaper. Thanks.

I am. Sorry this fell off my radar. I'll get started on it in the next few days. I have to work with the forum hosting company to address. I'll send you a PM for additional details needed.
