Has anyone out there looked into adding an oil cooler?

My concern is that with some BMW engines, adding the Oil Coller dropped Crank shaft oil pressure. I am debating whether to add one or not?

Opinion Mr. Spocks???

(sorry if link is not posted right, this is my firts post here [/emoticons/emotion-2.gif]

I had a BMW r1200c, it only used oil cooling, and worked very well,
when a friend's Shadow-700 overheated mine had no problems.

I also want to buy the oil cooling, i dont want ne problems with overheating (i live in tropical zone, so temp can be high)

W/ 5 quarts of oil do you really think a cooler is neccesary? Lets face it Yamaha tested these things in places like death vally and such. I tought about it myself but just can not see it as a neccesity esp. when Yam recomends 4000 miles between oil changes. To me that says the oil is staying prety cool.

Reza...I think usually you add a bit more oil to keep up the preasure in the system. But there is another alternative. Use oil cooling fins that surround the oil filter. They conduct the heat out to the fins which are air cooled. Use some thermal grease to enhance the effect. Check with RivaEric with the question. He is putting one on his Roadstar and I will be putting one on my warrior. It cools the oil about 20 degrees...not shabby for a bolt on inexpensive part.

It also protects the oil filter from puncture.

Hey Bismarck, I have been contemplating the Barons cooler as well & am running a lower cowl. I am 90% sure it will work as is

Installing higher compression pistons & stiffer valve springs with higher lift cams will raise oil temperature. The cooler is a GOOD idea.

I mean with the lower cowl. The only problem I see is routing the hoses, maybe different fittigs off the adapter will be required & some longer hose.

Be advised that this is speculation on my part as I do not have the Barons cooler in hand.

Barons may not know as well if they have not tried one on a bike equiped with the cowl but you should be able send it back if it don't fit.

Well,

I called and ordered the oil cooler today. I must asmit its an ugly piece, but we shall see. The lady on the phone told me that the bracket will not fit the Warrior !!! I told her to go ahead and send it anyways.

I hust recieved the Oil Filter Cover that has cooling fins. With the larger and modified engine, I think max cooling here in California will be a good thing to have.

Let us know how it works out. I have one with a cowl and was thinking along the same lines as you bismarck. Also live in Cal. (San Luis Obispo) but run out to the vegas and laughlin a few times a year. I noticed during the hollister rally, while crusing thru town the bike was getting real hot. I don't believe Yamaha tested the bike in desert conditions. HD did for their waterboy.

Folks,

Does anyone know a place domestically (in USA or Canada) that I can select an oil cooler radiator from? I just cannot find a selection anywhere. Th eone that comes with the Baron Oil cooler is too small for what I need. I need to get it anyway to use the filter adapter out of the kit, but I do want to add more radiator if I can.

Any hints or pointers would sure be appreciated.

Churkey,

I sent them email and have not heard a thing from them...let me know if you know of any dealers that sell their product as they are in UK.

You have to make a U shaped cut into the lower cowl to make it fit. Also make sure you toss those hose clamps and get yourself some Fule Injection (Fuel Line) Clamps.
