Anybody use a mirrored visor day and night?

I need a new visor, and would like to be able to get a tinted or mirrored visor and ditch the sunglasses. But I don't want to have to carry a clear visor for the ride home from work after dark. I've heard that some of the mirrored visors aren't that bad at night. Opinion?

The silver mirrored one I have is not a good idea to use at night. Especially once it gets a bunch of little scratches in it. It's getting near time for me to get a new helmet. I'm thinking of getting one that has a quick-detach thingie for the face shield so I can swap between mirrored and clear.

I have a gold mirrored shield for my Icon Mainframe, and ended up taking it off and just running the clear with sunglasses. Mine wasn't dark enough during the day, but at the slightest hint of evening I could barely see through it. It is a quick release, but I can't hack carrying an extra shield on a daily basis. Anyone know of any helmet manu. that offer a photoreactive lens? Clear at night and darkens during the day, that would be cool.

Talked to a rider the other day that was using a mirror visor. I asked about visibility at night. He said that he gets a double reflection from lights & it drives him nuts so he only uses that helmet for day trips.

Fog City makes one of their inserts that is photosensitive...and darkens in sunlight. But I highly recommend avoiding it. It's useless. It doesn't darken enough to properly shield your eyes from the sun, and after dark, it about as safe as looking through a jar of vaseline.

As for the mirrored visor, I guess it's a no-go. And I really don't want to carry an extra visor everywhere I go. I guess I'll keep using sunglasses.

BHW..

That's your best bet. I have a silver mirrored shield on my Mainframe.. and a blue on my wifes. I've used them both, during the day and at night. I had teh whole double vision thing as well, but I also wore a pair of Spy's with Yellow lenses under the mirrored sheilds. Could be this... BUT, with the yellow lenses, I have very little trouble with seeing at night, even thru the mirrored lens. of course, where I ride there are street lights GALORE, so visibility is never really an issue...

When I wear my full face I ride with a blue mirror visor day or night. It's all a matter of what you're used to. I've never had any double vision issues but I will agree with the part about lots of little scratches being anoying to look thru. I know people who've had their clear visor tinted half way down with auto/car window tint and all you have to do is tilt your head down a little if there's a bright headlight coming toward you. Again it's personal preferance as to how dark you're comfortable with.

I had the silver mirrored visor on my helmet but it got so scratched up in less than a year that it became unusable. I used to ride at night with it as long as I knew where I was, but the minute the roads were not lit real well or I was unfamiliar with where I was, I had to flip up the visor. I put the clear visor back on with a static cling tint thing across the top. Should have done this a long time ago.

Guess it depends on the brand of helmet it's for.

HJC and KBC have bad issues w/ their mirrored visors. They scratch the first time a bug hits them. For some reason, glass cleaners are very very bad on their surface. God forbid if you use anything resembling a paper towel.

As for functionality, I had minor issues w/ my mirrored visor, but nothing intolerable. Kept the headlight glare down, good thing. Dark enough that on the highway I couldn't see w/o brights, bad thing. Might be worth the $ if you're traveling in sunglasses, just think of how comfortable it will be to not have the ear pieces digging into your head!
