Anyone with Yamaha Risers and Flat Bar...

Hi,

I just picked my Warrior up from the local Yamaha dealer (nice guys, Stumpys Yamaha in NJ) - I had the Yamaha tall risers in chrome and the Yamaha flat bar installed.

First off they look great and the bike handels much better than with the stock bars.

Here is my question - HOW PERFECT SHOULD I expect the finish of the risers to be, from 12 inches away they look PERFECT if you look VERY VERY close you see a few tiny pits in the chrome and a few minor marks, how picky should I be, for anyone that has these on their bike are yours 100% without any type of marks? Thanks for your responses!

Considering the cost, they should be right. Pits in chrome can be prevented by striking the base material with copper, then nickel before the chrome even if the base material has small imperfections of its own. Considering these are surely CNC machined, I'd say the base material didn't have any flaws, probably just a crappy chrome job (unless they used S$%^ty quality aluminum which will have larger pits). If you don't take them back now, the pits will only get deeper and peeling and/or chipping can occur. It's no sweat off the dealers sack, Yami will just send them a new pair. Besides, they should've been proactive and done something about it before they were mounted. If the dealer's got a problem, show them how flawless the chrome on your bars is compared to the risers. Your bar base material is steel (better for chroming), but they won't have a leg to stand on in the argument.

i am never impressed with yamahas chrome. my chrome fender struts are far from perfect. i live with it because i ride it and sooner or later things will get messed up. like you said , if it looks good from a foot away it works for me. but it is your money and you should get what you want.

Nowell, let me first say welcome to the 4um, since I missed out on your first posts. I too am from the central Jersey area, and have the same risers with almost straight bars. Love the look, and once the dead bugs fill in the small pits, none is noticable. So long as the pits you are talking about were pre-chroming. If you are seeing chipped chrome, take it back to Stumpy's. They should not have sold you chipping chrome, but if it is just imperfections, then only replace it if you are looking to show. Yammi-chrome is definately not the best! [/emoticons/emotion-6.gif]
Let me know if you want to get together and compare.

My risers are pretty flawless as far as pits in the chrome go. However, I think the chrome in the three holes in the middle of the risers may be thin. It looks chrome but almost like there are hard water stains on it. I have done my best to polish it out and I am satisfied at this point. See for yourself...[/emoticons/emotion-1.gif]

First off thanks for all the replys, Stumpy's Yamaha in NJ has been great they ordered a new set and will let me compare and choose the best ones!!

As for the chrome on the ones I have it's not peeling it is just MINOR, MINOR blemishes, but I am building a show bike (I will still ride it also!!!!!!!) I was just curious about other Warrior owners that have the same part, and the condition of thier chrome

Snyper39, I would love to get together some time and ride, I am in Freehold, NJ - PM me and I will send you my phone number

Lets just say that Yamaha and Kuryakyn chrome is not the best, you need to look at several different peices to find the good ones. G&S 260 big tire kit next........
