They are K&N or K&N type filters. All you have to do is clean them with special spray can of filter cleaner. They are good for about 50k miles. Then it is suggested to replace them. This is what I have heard from mechanic types.

It is interesting that the Barons Bak doesn't come with the Krank Vent. Just the two filters (which aren't as pretty as the K&N RC1290s) and the bracket and two small filters. RC1290s are what 30 or so a piece? 10 for the little filters? So he is charging 80+ for the Bracket and instructions? Not a horrible deal I suppose...but I like the one is posted here with the 1290s better.

What do you all think?

Thanks WireNut for taking the Pics!!!!!!!!!!!

stupid question, are these stock filters can you go buy them or are they custom made. What happens when they need to be replaced?
just check out Darkstar"s BAK, it is the same thing, minus the sensor reloc plate. K&N Filter's RC-1290 or rc-1290 for chrome, not really sure what would be cheaper, the barrons or buying the parts separtly. you're going to end up instally it yourself anyhow!

K&N's are cleanable, you wan't need to replace them!

sorry his bak isn't there anymore, but here is a good site that tells you how and has some pics. just emagine there are tapered pods instead. http://www.seatac2000.com/warrior/road_warrior.htm

OHHHH, SHEIT MOSLEM[xx(] i forgot about a really great site for mods, i have know idea how it slipped my mind! the one, the only, billh1943's own sitehttp://www.angelfire.com/retro/billh1943/, great site for mods including the BAK. he had mentioned in a thread somewhere that he was making a reloc plate for the sensors. i am sure he will add that to the mods section of his site..

i like the bracket on Barron's but i like the BIG K&N filtres on the homemade. But on the homemade you have to cut all the pvc and tubing to make it fit and on barrons you dont. Does anyone know if Barron had a bracket for that or just got the correct sized filter? i'd like to have the bigger ones that fit right on.

Hey Meltdown...

you've been looking at the latest Home Made BAK set-up by DarkStar. Go to my web site and look at his original set-up...which is what i'm using...and you don't have to mess with any pvc. Very simple setup.

The sensor relocating brkt is simple also.

I am working on a new brkt that will replace the one i'm using now...it will hold the coils and the 4 sensors. I'm not going to relocate the Linear Control Valve tho. I have no problem with it's present location.

Alek, Tech...

hahaha...welllll...since that last post where i said i wasn't going to move the LCV...i think i might go ahead and move it too. If i can fit it on the plate.

I can't make my plate like the Baron's...he's using the short oval K&Ns and his plate can come back farther than what mine can...more room.

I'm using the RU-1280 filters which are much taller. And the left side 1280 filter is right beside the hole in the frame that he uses for a brkt mount...a 'wellnut' fits into that hole.

So my plate has to end at the filter on that side but extend on back farther on the right side just short of the rightside K&N.

I just got done using the CAD prgrm and moving the 3 sensors around here and there and i think i've got a way to put the LCV on it too. If it'll fit physically as well as on paper...i'll go ahead and move it too.

I'll probly go get the alum today or tomorrow and start on it and see if it'll work.

Meltdown...
I think it was Dark Star that talked with K&N and they said the tapered would be better for our application...of course, this was after i put the 1280s on. [/emoticons/emotion-1.gif]
