Beanie, 3/4,full or none?

For the first 10 mos. of Warrior ownership I went out and bought and used a beanie/skid lid/brain bucket type of helmet (dot cert). Mostly because this is my first cruiser after 30+ yrs of riding. I'm ashamed to admit it but I got it because the beanie was part of what I thought the cruiser style was about. Went back to full face after regaining my senses and reading about so many 'Warrior down' posts. What about you?

First off let me say that helmets are a choice. If you choose not to wear one and die because of it then I say "HUMBUG!". More road for the rest of us and shame on you. The same goes for seat belts. Shame on you.

My call sign may be misleading but the Deathdeelr likes to cheat death wearing a flamed police style 3/4 for most cruising and a full chrome full face VR-1 with chrome shield for dragging and scaring the shyt out of people. After that stupid accident I had with that Royal Star a few months ago, I swore that if I didn't have on the full face, I might have been able to see him coming. I am one of the very VERY few who have excellent peripheral vision even with glasses. I was able to prove to my doctor that I could see the sides of the helmet when looking straight ahead (Doc rides a Venture). Now that I have a family to think about, I am rethinking the full time full face. That may be a little hippocritical when you see me in a t-shirt, vest, jeans, Timax armored shorty gloves in a full face in 100 degree heat. Hmmmmmm

I've got a full face, and 2 half's. I 'should' wear the full-face all the time, but I don't. If the weather's nice, I use one of the half-helmets. Full-face if I know the weather's bad or I'm going to be hitting highway. Half for around town, but (and big but here) most accidents take place at *intersections*. Where are intersections? Around town.

Whether it be full face, or half, or 3/4, any helmet is going to be better than no helmet at all. Even the 'brain pans' offer a negligible advantage over raw skull. No helmet? No way.

Full face Arai Signet-GT.

I haven't been riding long, but I've always had a full face helmet. I've had enough rocks and bugs hit me in the shield (ever have a dragonfly hit you in the shield??? NASTY!!!) to know that I made the right choice for me. I dont have anything against anyone who doesn't wear one. just my choice.

Hey 3youngns...your handle gives you the only reason your need to where a full face helmet!!! Over 65 percent of injuries to the head involve the chin and cheek area which is why a full face helmet is necessary. A helmet does not make you 'invincible' but will help protect you in otherwise 'suvivable' accidents. In other words, most fatal accidents with a full face helmet are because there was sufficient fatal trauma to others areas of the body as well.
DON'T BE SELFISH... YOUR KIDS DESERVE THERE DAD TO BE THERE FOR THEM!!!!!

Oh CRAP, Mom? I really always ride with a full face. I was just kidding. All the other guys are doing it. JJJHHHEEEZZZ!!

Just kidding classic55. Seriously, I do understand your point and I have heard it a hundred times. I will be making the move to a full faced. But WHEN, will be my decision. Just like I decide what bike to ride and how to ride it. That is what draws me to the motorcycle everyday.

Remember, to many of the people we know and love "we are all crazy" for taking the risks we do. The excuses you have, for the dangers of getting on a bike at all, are the same ones I have for wearing a skid lid. BTW....My Mom knows I ride w/ a skid lid. She also knows its my choice.

You ever notice how no one wearing a skid lid or none is trying to convince everyone else that "Thats the way to go"?

95% of my riding is with a non DOT certified skull cap, 1/2" thick no padding and it even says not fit for highway use on the inside. I do have a Snell approved fullface that I use when it is cold or when I go to the drag strip.

While not an excuse, but when I wear the skull cap I drive slower (about 85 mph on the highway and faster in the city from light to light.) When I wear the full face I tend to drive faster becasue I am more secure with it on. At least I ALWAYS wear ICON Ti Max gloves, jeans, and riding boots.

whats a helmet?? If i crash at 99 + with a helmet, im pretty sure i wouldn't wanna be alive after that.
Just messen, been riding for 4 years now and never really rode with a met. Just put on my glasses and go.

I went down at 90 mph and got up and walked away. Don't think I would have ever woke up again if I had not been wearing a helmet ... and armored jacket, gloves, boots. You never know when you might crash or what the circumstances may be. I'll risk wearing the helmet.
