The popping and backfiring was there before, just not as noticable due to the stock exhaust. There is a quieter baffle made for the big shots, it can be found athttp://www.directparts.com and the part # is VH21869. The big shots come with baffles but they are a straight through baffle, while the quieter ones are not. A word of advice, if you get the quieter baffles, they come with a fiberglass wrap held on with cellophane tape. Do not remove the tape when installing the baffles, or you will have to fight the fiberglass wrap. I removed on the first one I installed and it took considerable effort to install, I installed the 2nd one with no problem and figured the tape would just burn off.

Hope this helps.

How much have you ridden the bike with the pipes on? Have you adjusted your ECU? For some reason, when I first put the bigshots on I thought it sounded terrible and loud. And I've had HD's with drag pipes....I adjusted the ECU and rode it for a bit and now I'm very happy with the sound. Maybe some carbon buildup in the baffles changed the tone, I don't know. You'll never get rid of the back firing completely, but I've learned how to shift the bike so that it hardly ever backfires.

You'll never eliminate the backfiring completely, as stated it was there all along, you just didn't hear it with the stock can (sort of like a muffled "poof").

Sorry to hear they are too loud for you. Out of curiosity, is it too loud for you personally or does it not pass some type of UK noise regulation?

Well put it this way, everyone turns and looks!, in the UK most other bikes are quiet in comparison, i did have a 2002 R1 with a race can fitted and that was silent compared to this!, I have only been around the block so far and just cannot ride any further until i can sort it. I think its too loud, and so do my neighbours.
thanks for the feed back everyone, fantastic site, cheers Paul

Paul,

If you are surrounded by other bikes not running pipes like these, I totally agree you will stick out like a sore thumb. Stock touring bikes and even sportbikes do not have this type of volume. Here in the states as you can imagine it is a totally different story courtesy of our Harley-Davidson aficionados, so the Warrior with standard baffled Bigshots blends in nicely and IMO is quiet compared to a HD with short drag pipes.

Given your surroundings, I now better understand your tough situation.
