I got the Yamaha shop to put some hardkrome 3" DD's on my bike. About 100 miles later my bike started running like crap, it idols real erratic. The Yamaha shop can not figure out what is wrong, they have had my bike 1 week now and they still don't have a clue what is wrong. they got the people at yamaha working on the problem with one of there test bikes but know one has found the problem yet. Can anyone help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am going crazy without my bike.

JASONC, I had a irregular idle and found the problem.

1. Does it do it after the bike has warmed up? The Linear Control Valve controls the idle only when the bike is cold.
2. If yes, using the bikes self diagnostic function check the signal range from the TPS. If it is too low at idle, adjust the TPS to bring it up to specs.
3. If you have installed anything to the TPS like a PCIII or other fuel/air computer, unplug the connection and see if that corrects the problem.
4. Very closely check the wires from the TPS. Any and I mean ANY cut or nick into the wire will cause a problem.
5. If everything checks out, I would suspect a faulty TPS.

My problem was a bad PCIII which was replaced under warranty. They said they couldn't find anything wrong with it but a new one cured the problem.

Good Luck

With the engine warmed up and running, disconnect the PCIII from the TPS. If the idle settles down the problem is with either the PCIII or the wire tap to the TPS. If the wire tap has cut the stranded wire going to the TPS, that must be repaired. It should cut the insulation but not the wire itself.

The PCIII does not send any signals to the ECU. The PCIII intercepts the signal from the ECU, modifies it and sends it on to the injectors. No reset is required as nothing is changed in the ECU with or without a PCIII connected.
