I've had my warrior '02 for 2 years and even though the brakes feel fine to me, I'd like to change the brake fluid. Any pointers I need to know before draining the brake fluid and replacing with new brake fluid, that I should know about? This would be my first time on changing out the fluid for me but it looks to be a straight forward task. I enjoy doing the maintainance and repairs myself, just learn alot more about your own bike.

Thanks

2 words...Mighty Vac(available at most auto parts stores of online)

Suck the fluid out from the bleeder screw while refilling at the top. Pull about a quart through and you'll be completely flushed....with no chance of getting air in the system....Just don't let it run dry on top.

I went and purchased a brake bleeding kit from autozone when I installed my forward controls. It was very cheap and very easy to use and as Big Shasta said, make sure you dont let the fluid level get too low while pumping on the brakes. Its a pretty simple procedure.

Go for it! You'll have fun. The owners manual and the service manual have excellent pointers, which melts down to what has already been said, plus a few other pointers. Like don't get brake fluid on your paint or chrome. This is also a great time to install new friction material andpins-shims-anti-squeek.

Here's a couple helpful topics:

If you do replace friction materials then it'll be helpful to be sure your parts are specific to the 2002 model year although probably everything is interchangable for the 2002-2005 model years. Most of us went with Yamaha linings since they out-perform most everything else and last longer.
