Computer specs needed to connect to PCV

169 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Bris_Warrior
Hello everyone.

I have searched extensively both here and generally in Google, and cannot find an answer to my question.

My new-to-me '02 Warrior came with a Power Commander V installed. And I want to know what specs I need for a Windows based computer to connect with the PCV.

I run an Apple Mac and am not interested in mucking around with a Windows emulator so I am in the market for a cheap laptop for tuning purposes.

So if anyone can help me out with respect to both what hardware and what software (version of Windows the computer needs to run) I would be very much obliged.

A normal windows based laptop with a USB port and wifi should work... **** i had an old windows Vista laptop that was running it just fine.. if you could hook up a USB to a tablet, that would probably work as well as long as it had enough memory for the program and maps.

As far as "hardware"... You'll just need the USB cable to link the 2. The PC5 should get its power for flashing via the 5v USB hookup, no more dreaded 9v battery!

Almost anything running windows 10 having several USB-A ports even 1.0 but 2.0 or 3.0 USB works better.

Older versions of windows will work too but Win10 runs a wider array of software and integrates a lot of things that prior had to be separately tweaked on certain applications.

One thing: you need to verify the computer and the windows version number will allow you to load and run ANY software. Some versions now allow only software downloaded from Microsoft and will not let software load from a disc or chip. It's criminal imho but they do it.

So a laptop with windows 10 that is not limited or locked. Lots of store clerks are clueless because everyone uses wireless in conjunction. But the laptop might not be near wireless when you want to mess with the PCV.

Sensational! Thank you for the details reply. I’m going shopping! 👊
Oh, it’s not so bad to run Parallels on a Mac… I helped a buddy (fellow moderator on here) by loading a map for him using my 2013 MacBook Air.

As a programmer that has multiple laptops, I recommend using your mac with Parallels -> Application and Desktop Delivery | Parallels RAS

I believe it's perfect solution, as with parallels you won't get into trouble with all of the windows updates and low battery time.
