Remember last years trip to Deals Gap in mid September?? I know it's a little early but Judy and I are putting in our reservations for this year. We are staying at Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge which is where we stayed last year with Leezure and his wife and absolutely loved it. It is east of Deal Gap but only minutes away. We are making reservations for the nights of Thursday September 16th thru Sunday night September 19th leaving for home on Monday morning. The web site for Ironhorse is www.ironhorsenc.com. It shows their accomodations, rates, and a map showing their location. The owners are great people. They will even cook meals for you if you give them notice. They have cabins, camping sites (you can rent tents), and a bunkhouse. This motorcycle lodge is new within the last couple of years and the property has a creek running right thru the middle of it that you can see and hear from anywhere you stay.
I hope some of you can make it again this year. We had a blast last year. These dates are open now but don't know for how long.

Darell, I'm still waiting on the time off from work. If it works out Roger said I can borrow his trailer. My truck's set-up already, just need a ball and harness adapter. I might consider riding but wanted to leave tuesday mid-afternoon. This would leave out the R6 as a choice for sure though. What are you ridin'?

Since I already took the Warrior once I decided to take the Busa. It will also be more comfy on the ride up and back. Last year I almost crippled myself riding the Warrior back, about 700 miles in one day. Those iron butt guys are nuts.

With the opportunity to trailer I'd go that route if I where you so that you can take both bikes. I'd love to take both of mine, maybe another year.

If you come south to get Roger's trailer, or he brings it to you, can you make a stop in Vero and carry some stuff up for me?

Darell, I won't bring both bikes but it's tempting. If I ride the dragon as hard as I did last year on the Warrior I'll need knee pucks and full leathers on the R6 and don't own any yet. I'm leaning towards the Warrior, besides it's got a good rear tire and the 6's needs to be changed (cords showing).

Speaking of leathers, I've got a set of two piece Fieldsheers that I'm looking to rid myself of. They are literally brand new. I've worn the pants all of three times, never in the rain. The jacket isn't even broken in yet. It's blue/black, so it would compliment the R6, 'less you have the red/white one...

I'll bring them with me in the event you, or anyone else is interested, to buy or to wear for a 'spirited' ride through the gap.. /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

LOL.. You would ask what size.. 44 I think.. I'd have to look and see actually. I think the jacket is like a US 42/44 and the pants are a US36 I think. I've had it for two years and it's been stored away in the closet. I'll bring it with mne and you can look at it at least.. I also have a pair of Alpinestar boots that wer Doohan replicas.. can't exactly wear them with the WaRRior. I'm trying to figure out a way to have the leather (suede texture) dyed. If I can get them dyed all black.. it's on..

I hear you Shawn, it's not like you need to go any faster over those roads than you do already![/emoticons/emotion-4.gif] I'm screwed on the tire thing. No matter which bike I bring I'll need at least one new tire. After my little traction issue earlier this year my wife made me promise to wear full leather, including pants, this year. I'll be a little conspicuous but it's not a bad idea. I just hope the fact that I'm all geared up doesn't inspire me to do something really stupid.[:0]

Don't worry DeWarrior,

If I bring my leathers, I will be so inclined to wear them as well. IF I can squeeze my big ass in'em.

HA HA! I'm in the same boat. For most of my life I've gone to a gym regularly, but for the past 6 months or more a couple of new additions to the family have temporarily ended that. My waistline has expanded considerably and everthing else has shrunk![V]

I never could figure out how to post images of th eold look my Alpinestars had in the PM feature, so I'm posting them here.

I coudln't find teh VHT dye, but the local show repair store sold me some hiebrig (I think it's spelled) dye. This was a VERY simple thing to do. I wanted to dye the white/blue/red (well, actually more orange/pink) to all black. These boots are very comfortable and are literally brand new. Anyway, the liquid dye is very thin and a little goes a l-o-n-g way. I could dye all my leather jackets with this one bottle of dye I think. I dyed them last night and let them dry 24 hours, then dyed thema again, this time actually following the direction adn wiping the excess off with a rag, which helps remove the 'sheen' of the dye making the process look more natural. Too me all of 45 minutes to do them over two nights. I'll follow up with a waterproofer within the next few days and I should be done.

For $6.00 I now have a new relatively decent looking colored pair of Alpinestars for the Warrior.

Guys, looks like I'm in. Got the days off from work. Now how to get there? I might leave tuesday afternoon and see where the day takes me. Should be there by Wed. afternoon if I sleep somewhere along the way. Considering it's a dry county, last years camping spot doesn't look so bad now. Anyone semi-local know where the closest beer store will be from the campsite?

Chad, that's a tough call. Phone service is useless up there, and without a plan who know's where anyone'll be at the time you show. Just get to the campsite at Iron Horse and eventually we should pick you up.
