do baffles add more power?

Fine Line when it comes to adding Baffles. The correct back pressure will always give you optimum torque, but nothing significant. You have to go internal to get a significant difference.

Example, my modification's are Propipe w/modified racing baffle, BAK, PCIII, Custom Map, KrankVent AIS Blocked I get a maximum of 93 HP & 109 ftlbs. I have been as high as 96 HP & 113 ftlbs. but I was running her on the lean side, which will give you better Dyno #'s.

I have a modified baffle. When I installed the HD Billet End Cap I cut the stock baffle end cap off back to the pressure plate, thus removing about 2 inches of the stock baffle. With this precedure I maintained the back pressure and increased flow rate by cutting the last 2 inches and stock end cap off. This had to be done prior to install of the Billet End Cap or you could purchase the HD Low Power Baffle or Competition Baffle and replace the stock baffle entirely. Then it is a perfect mate between the HD Billet EndCap and either of the Hd Baffles.

See you can even alter your baffle(s) to tune your exhaust given the power characteristics you're after. At first I thought you might've drilled holes or something. I knew I read it somewhere - to many Coronas[/emoticons/emotion-5.gif]... I actually did something similar to my stock baffle, but it was way too loud for the Mrs. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to dyno it that way, and thought it sounded better that way. I wouldn't run the Propipe w/o a baffle, for sure. To quote PigDog, it sounds like a hollowed out, really loud 'old man's wet fart'.

Enter the next silly question... Isn't proper backpressure required to ensure a smoother powerband?

Jimbo,
Yes, it is, but the stock baffle pressure plate is the second plate that I cut back to. The first plate was the internal end cap. I replaced that with the HD Billet End Cap. My powerband is as good as it will ever get with my minimal modification's. I know if I want more it is internal modification's that will give me the #'s i really want. My goal is to clear 110 HP & 125 ftlbs.
