Here in the south-west of germany it is quite common to drink beer or wine with your meals. Because of the frequent controls I ususally dont drink more then two beers or two small glasses of wine. This also goes for evenings. I have noticed that many bikers drink more, especially on meetings. I made it a rule, not to drink alcohol when I ride my bike.
(this also goes for beer an wine)
I found out, that riding a bike - even with one beer is more dangerous- then driving a car. What is your opinion ?

How long before the drunks start posting in this thread. I KNOW some of you bar hop on your Warrior. Why haven't they fessed up yet? The "no helmet" guys fess up.

They don't "fess up" because they are wise enough to not want to infulence even one tea-toatler into thinking it's alright to drink and ride.

Dude, are you kidding? one German beer is like 3 miller lights!! Yes, I wouldn't even drive a car let alone a bike. Whenever I decide to drink, I drink till I get drunk and either crash @ friend's house or get a motel near by in walking distance. I'd been doing that for just about 10 years now. No reason to risk your life or someone else's. I can't drink comfortably knowing that I have to ride or drive.

Kajo's got a good point...I 'd rather you run into me on a bike fer sure.
And it takes all your senses operating any machine, anywhere.

My hipocracy knows no bounds though, I have been known to have a beer or two during a ride. In my own defense, 255lbs holds it a little better than 160lbs or so.
I have rode several times with people that will suck down a few beers before a ride, 2 at every stop (and we stop quite often, 60/70 miles or so) and finish off at the bar, then ride home at 11:00 pm.
No more...

and I don't have to tell them they just set a Diet Coke out there for me and keep it filled that's all I need if I drink anything but d c or water I stay at home cant risk a chance of stupidity can cost a life and it might not be yours...

I dont drink and ride. The courts are too full of idiots round here who get done for 'driving/riding under the influnce'. Besides I usually have a pillion (the other half) so I would never risk it. Mind you I still get wrecked on a Friday or Saturday night when we go to rallies etc and are there for the weekend.

Well, I follow the simple drinking rule. If I have one drink - I don't ride for 1 hour, 2 drinks - don't ride for 2 hours. It takes (generally) an hour to metabolize a drink (IE 1 beer, or one mixed drink containing one shot). SO, on dart night every Thursday, I get there just before 6pm, slam 2 bourbon and 7's, and then drink milk for the rest of the evening - ensuring I leave AFTER 8 pm. (The Harley guys love to razz me about the milk!) It's really not rocket science... I can eat my cake and have it too...

Iced tea for me. Motorcyclist/Cycle World did a great article on drinking driving and its effects on skill level. That 'one to calm the nerves' actually worked with one of the riders (a racer) but not with the other testers. I just responded to a wreck in which an 18 year old female (under the influence of something) turned her Civic, with 4 young passengers, around in front of a Tahoe doing 50-60. One passenger died. What a tragedy.
