Front Axle question...is it threaded???

Is the front axle threaded or "pressed in"? I loosened the clamp screw on the right side of the bike, and gently tried to push the axle out, but it wouldn't budge. I don't want to REALLY push it, unless I know for sure that is how it's in there.

I saw that the right side of the axle resembles an allen headed bolt, but it would have to be 3/4" across to fit in the axle.

Thanks.

There have been several threads on this topic already, basically with some people preferring to use a 19mm 1/2" drive hex socket bit (available from McMaster Carr) and others using 3/4" nuts on a bolt or an inverted spark plug socket. Me, I like new tools so I bought the 19mm hex bit.

Piece of cake to remove and replace the axle.

LOL - man, you guys are the freakin' MacGiever's of the RSwarrior Forum.

If someone had said, "take a chisel, put an open ended box wrench on it and go to work"...I most likely would have been posting something tomorrow saying "****, I really screwed this up and accidentally took off the whole front end."

Thanks guys. That should about do it. I have both the chisel, and the bolt, and will be picking up the allen head socket tomorrow just in case.

Yes, but that doesn't allow me to take the rotor and brake assembly off to run the right side naked. If the whole assembly comes off, the axle still blocks the rotor.

Ok, THE CHISEL WON OUT IN AN 11th HOUR DECISION (read that as: couldn't find a local hardware store, got stuck with a home improvement store, and they didn't have allen head drives that big).

THANKS, THANKS, THANKS. I so completely learned something, and got a new tool out of it as well.

Now I just need 8 really nicely polished allen bolts to put in the holes to replace the stock ones that look like crud.
