Looks clean, I cant get one of the hex bolts out, I was going to try something similar but I am worried the bolt will snap.

jimmy2... the bolt @ 12:00 o'clock is a dummy screw and is held on by a nut on the back of the flange [:0]

EDITED:
4 ~ cap screws hold the cap to the top of the tank [
]
1 ~ cap screw under the cap @ 5:00 o'clock [B)] oops

Alan, looks good, but if that's polished, be prepared to keep cleaning it. My ridges were
shaved off also and the entire cap was polished. That thing is always the first to oxidize.

Gregg... i originally posted the two tone mod this past Feb and yes you are correct, it needed a good polishing this time around when i replaced the hardware.

The chrome gas cap is real pretty [^] except that i was concerned about the possible damage to the zinc parts (lid & tab)

Great/quick mod once you have the parts in hand.

Trimmed the screws to fit & used nylon spacer from my friends at Fastenal.
Easy to countersink and gives a little so you can index the screw heads.

After polishing the metal, seal it. It'll last longer. I do it to the screen plate on the speed* intake and my stock passenger pegs and clutch and brake levers. Did it a few months ago with Master Formula, still looks good.
