They just push in, so you have to find something small to get behind them, and then pull them out gently. I have a pick/hook set from Snap On that works pretty well. I have seen these pick sets many places for just a few dollars. If you don't have a set, go buy one, as they are extremely handy. These picks are round, so you can get them under the caps without denting or scratching them.

The tabs you are refering to are on the top of the risers? If so, they are just decortive plastic caps pushed into the head of the allen head screws that hold the riser caps in place. Just lift them out with a very small pick or screwdriver.[8D]
