Harley walks away from Warrior twice in a row from 40-45 mph roll-on

Went riding today with my wife and two Warrior riders from this forum, a husband and wife team. Found ourselves on the highway and the husband decided it was time to put my Harley in its place so he started gassing it some when we were both doing around 40-45 mph to show me he wanted to "go." We both nailed it and (I'm sure) to his surprise, I walked away from him until my speedometer hit 120mph and my bike was still pulling. He shut it down and gave up on trying to keep up. After I slowed down and he caught back up he kindly shot me the bird out of appreciation.
Image
A few miles later down the road he decided something must have gone wrong and that this time he'd REALLY show me... But the same story repeated itself only this time I only hit about 100 mph before he'd given up. True story and I'll let the Warrior rider tell his side of it once he sees this post. Both his bike and mine have aftermarket pipes and VBAK with PCIII and no other performance mods to either bike. Might be a little hard for some of y'all to swallow, but it happened today. Twice.

1600 miles in 4 days and no leak on my Warrior. You must have had a bad set up. (Laugh, cuz you call 100 miles on a Warrior a long distance)Ooops, just pushed another button!
Image

Sounds like you may have a bad setup or just refuse to ride at high rpms (thanks to a very short 5th gear). On the way to the coast with my wife, oil was all over the engine on our warrior, might be the V-BAK kit.

Just take it like a man, there are better bikes than a warrior. Including HDs..I do not suffer from SDS.. Who cares if it was, or can be,smoked by a American bike. Life goes on.

Besides, Travis(shag) and Steve(centerline) are better riders than about 99.9% of most members here.
I surely don't think I am a better rider than that many members here, maybe a little better than average, certainly nowhere near the capabilities of CruiseMissile. Anywho 07Midnite, I mentioned 100 miles as long distance on the Warrior, 'cause if you cruise the freeway at about 75-80mph on a Warrior, you are gonna be lookin' for fuel in about 100 miles. With 5 gallons (5.1) on my Hardley, I don't begin looking for fuel when cruising on the freeway until after 225 miles. And at that point i am not ready to get off the bike for a break. On the Warrior, (stock seat) I was MORE than ready to get off at the 100 mile point. I rode my Hardley to California from Dallas at the beginning of the year. Rode the first day for 16 hours and just got off the bike ONCE for a pee and eat break. At fuel stops, I just pulled up to a pump, filled her and off I went. Didn't even get off the bike. Rode via I-20 and I-10 to just past Phoenix then north to Needles, about 1250 miles. Was certainly tired, but I don't think I could have done it in the same time on my Warrior.....I would have been exhausted and have had to stop too many times for fuel. I rode a Warrior round trip Dallas-Houston once, only about 5 or 6 hundred miles and was really EXHAUSTED. The oil on the aft cylinder head on both Warriors experienced on both Warriors may have been related to the SpeedStar Hi-compression pistons and PR BAK, I don't know, but any long distance (1 full tank) ride an the superslab made a mess of the aft cylinder and the cover just aft on the left side of the bikes.

Then I do understand the 100 to 120 per fill up comment but I never had a problem with butt miles. I have a stock seat with punisher drag bars along with a mini-fairing that helps with the wind but that's it. No oil leaks with my DIY BAK and no probs puting miles under me.

I feel like you're trying to start an argument with me for some reason but I'm not sure why

Not trying to start anything with you. I simply find it funny that you still use the term "typical Harley rider" when describing the reason some people bought their motorcycle but take offense if someone calls you a "typical Harley rider" when you bought the bike for the EXACT same reasons. I know a lot of guys that ride 40-50K miles a year and could care less about the performance capabilities........doesn't make them any less of a rider is all I am saying.

*sigh* Yeah, I bought it for those reasons (style/sound/comfort) but never intended to ride it like what I call a "typical Harley rider." In my own personal encounters with people who ride Harleys, I see... Well, like someone joked with me the other day: "How can you tell a curve in the road is coming up if you're behind a group of Harleys?" I knew the answer and gave it: "All of their brake lights come on."

Travis I know what you mean by the "Typical HD rider".LMAO! the Brake light joke is MINE And on the ride Travis and I were on Sunday that was the response from the"typical harley rider"
Image
Another thing when we had to ride some 40 miles to reach the Dealership where the Ride was starting from GUESS where the "typical Harley riders were? Draggin AZZ way in the back and we were not even breaking the speed limit. WTF can't you guys even do the speed limit? But in my Mirrors a R6 (my sons) a warrior( martha's) and Travis's (street bob) . My conclusion is it's not the bike it's the RIDER! and ONE THINGS FOR SURE TRAVIS IS NOT THE "TYPICAL HD RIDER" and neither is Steve (Centerline) and I know this first hand because I have ridden with both numerous times and it doesn't matter what bike they are on! Both of them can flat out ride any Motorcycle!

Actually, my set up is just fine. I generally ride at higher RPM's due to the fact that most of the roads I ride are freeway/highway miles. Therefore I usually keep it between 80 - 100 mph when on these roads. I topped my bike out at a little over 130 and never lost a drop of oil or had it leak from anywhere on the motor. If it did I would fix the problem ASAP! Sounds to me like you may have over filled your motor. I use 4.3 quarts of Mobil 1 V-Twin synthetic and have NEVER had an issue. I also did the DIY BAK with no oil leaks. Although I haven't researched the topic, I've never seen an oil leak issue with these bikes until now on this thread.

Speak for yourself, YOU take it like a man! There may be "better" bikes out there but that is all irrelevant due to the fact that the word "better", in this case, is just someone elses opinion, mainly yours which doesn't pertain to me as I couldn't care less what you think is or isn't a better bike. I don't think HD's are better bikes or I would own one. Sure, there are a few people on this forum that wish they could afford a Harley but settle for the imports. I'm not one of them as I can afford any production bike built. I just prefer my Warrior.

I do think that my Warrior is better than Shag's HD. Shag, I'm sure, would beg to differ. But in the end, I'm really here in THIS thread just adding fuel to the fire and having a laugh at others expense. Hey, it's the American way!

Not really. I think your bike is better than mine in some ways and mine is better than yours in some ways. As a matter of fact I *know* that to be true for me. Because I used to ride a Warrior. Some things were better about that bike than the one I have now for me and some things are better about the bike I have now for me.

Nah, I just short shifted so that I couldshow off my6th gear before getting out of range of the camera. It's like thetop gear on your bike only plus one.
Image
Actually... I'm still not quite used to the low RPM limit on the bike. I've hit the rev limiter on it a few times more than I'd care to admit. Hard to forget that 14K redline from the gixxer...
Image
And for the "expensive Harley" comment... I realize some people have to have things repeated for them a LOT before it sinks in, but MSRP on my bike is lower than MSRP on a new Midnight Warrior.... for about the 18th time... Glad I could clear that up for you...for the 18th time.

Hey, did I mention that MSRP on my bike is lower than MSRP on a new Midnight Warrior? Ride safe!

Hey Shag. How does the price of your HD compare to that of, say, a midnight Warrior? I've heard that those HD's are expensive and I would expect that a street bob would cost about fifteen to twenty thousand more than a warrior. I know it might be a personal question, asking a man how much he paid for his bike, but you could just tell us the MSRP to give us an idea of how much you overpaid...

For the 19th time, lets both take $10k and go buy our bikes new! I know I will come home with a NEWbike... you are going to be $4k or $5k short - don't worry though HD will finance you for 84 months... MSRP doesn't mean anything. Most Jap bikes are discounted.

OK, OK, OK. You win! I agree. My bike is worth more than your bike.

Worth is a relative term, I am a motorcyclist andaSportster is worth more than your littleHD any day of the week. Worth...what exactly is worth more - that ability to stop? The ability to pull away fromthat Warrior -that makes your bike worth it? I got aKawasaki KZ650 - you want to try and pull away from that and see what your bike is worth? That KZ has a 6thgear - it too gets 45mpgso it must be worth about the same as that over price Sportsterthat made all your HD owning dreams finallycome true!

PS - Well that is good your littlebike beat a Warrior, after all you do have two shocks and that Warrior only has one
Image
Maybe now you can try and race a XL1200 and see how you fair!

Is there where I throw in a couple of smiling faces?

Are you referring to my "little" HD that weighs 17 pounds more than your Warrior? It's hard to joke around with SOME OF you guys. SOME OF you seem to have taken this thread a little personally. I guess it's somewhat understandable given the title. But I think it's gone on long enough and "probably" even too long. I'm going to do my part by making this my last post on this thread. With any luck a mod with lock this one up now before someone spoils the whole thing by really making an ass of themself.

Y'all ride safe, and if you see a "little" black Harley coming up fast in your mirrors, just pull over to the side a little and let a brother pass.

Oh come on - I am having fun! Man, you point out that a 78 KZ has a 6 speed and everyone gets all weird... Shag if you only knew how much fun I am having. If it has 2 wheels I would ride it - but I am that guy that loves to needle people about brands and it comes from racing and having a family bike shop that sold specific brands. Finding fault in the other guy's ride was engrained in me at a very young age - the hatred of HD, well itjust came naturally. But remember my family was into bikes when HD had nothing but image on the other brands - back when their gaskets were made of cork and a 4 speed kickerwas all you got!

Wow gone 4 days and this one still lives. As many miles as this thread has received I think it is due for an oil change.

Not needed, we have Harleys in here. Just top it off every night and change the filter every couple of months.

Me too Shag - We're all having fun at your expense, and your bike's. You see, we're not on some Harley website boasting about how most of us smoke most Harley's. Jee whiz, if I went to a Harley forum and commented about every time I smoked Harleys I'd be there all day. Maybe a couple of HD's can beat a Warrior but all in all, we will win maybe8 out of 10 times in a true drag race. As for the "gaskets made of cork and a 4 speed kicker" comment, TOO FREAKING HILARIOUS!!!!!!!! Ahhh, the good ol' days!

Tonight, I ran into an oldpal of mine, alone, on his hopped up 95" Softail Springer. He's been harassing me when I've seen him out riding, while I'm2up with my Fiancee -"Maybe you should get a real bike..." was the comment from him last weekend. I did nothing, as my precious cargo is more important than a race. I just told him - "You have no idea..."

Well, we rolled up the highway through the 45 mph area side by side. He was rolling on and off the throttle, making noise and smiling. I just held her steady, waiting for the 65 mph zone. We were about 50 feet from the zone, and I looked over and held up three fingers (to indicate 3rd gear - Thanks Shag), he nodded, and when we hit the sign I dropped it wide open. He disappeared quickly in my mirror, as I red lined 3rd, 4th, and topped out 5th at around 4800 r's........
Image

I slowed down, and when he caught up there was a look of a bruised ego on his face. Just up ahead there was a biker pulled over on the side of the road, so we pulled in to see if the guy needed help. Wouldn't you know it, he was riding a Harley. Seems he was having some trouble keeping it running...
Image

We got him going, and turned the bikes around to head back to town. We road pretty casually (70ish) back to the 45 zone where there is a red light. I stopped dead a second or two before him, and the light turned green. He gunned it, still rolling, and got a car length in front of me as I revved up and dropped the clutch. 4500 r's in first (I'm at his tail), shift to second and red line that beast (I'm past him now), as I shifted into thirdthe strangest thing happened... my front tire lifted off the ground (just a little). I slowed it down to the speed limit from there, and he caught up again. He yelled over, "mine still sounds better than yours..."

We both laughed out loud! That was fun. I don't think thatI ever wanted to beat anybody that bad. We're going on a 400 mile run tomorrow.I don't think that I'm gonna hear anymore crap from the peanut gallery.

My Fiancee was stoked whenI told her why I was late. She knew he had it coming...

So, in conclusion -

1st race (roll-on from 45 mph) - Warrior vs. HD = Warrior
Image

2nd race (Dead stop / HD rolling handicap) - Warrior vs. HD = Warrior
Image

Bike dead on the side of the road - HD
