It is a really smart marketing idea. Full MSRP that you paid for your new Sportster, recovered up to one year later against the purchase of a new bigger Harley. Pretty cool. I am much more satisfied with my new Harley than I was with either of my 2 Warriors, and I certainly enjoyed the Warriors ... neither one of them was plain vanilla and both were full Stage IV.

Absolutely Brillant plan and Offer! Now every wannabe can get a HD and trade it latter for every bit they paid . Sure wish yamaha would have done that when I bought my v star 650 and traded it for the warrior, Just curious about one thing can I trade it for the dinning room table?

Guys,I'm really getting worried about Centerline & his new infatuation with Hardleys.Could it be that breathing in all that avgas over the years has sotened his cerebreal cortex??????

I am sure of it Tony. There is nothing like the aroma of jet fuel in the morning ... ahhhhhhhh . So far, tho the only Hardleys that interest me have TWO actual front discs and a tiny bit of extra lean angle available.

Okay, it's a good idea. But, if they're going to give you MSRP for the bike a year later, that leads me to believe that you'll have to pay MSRP for the Sportster. Furthermore, they're probably going to make you pay MSRP for the upgraded bike you purchase a year later. All in all, probably not a spectacular deal. The best part about it actually is that they'll take the Sportster off your hands for a guaranteed price. In this economy, I'm sure used bikes are going to be harder and harder to sell.

Yeah this sounds like a great idea - especially the part where the taxpayers will be on the hook to recover the depreciation of said Sportster against the value of the loan that is no doubt held by HDs finacial arm...


Harley–Davidson is hoping to have an answer Tuesday about whether the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. will designate the company as eligible for federal funding under a bank bailout program.

Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., has asked the agency to approve Harley’s request, ideally ahead of the company’s fourth-quarter earnings report due out Friday. H-D employs nearly 3,000 people at its plant in York County, Pa., and another 1,500 work at dealerships in the state.

H-D has asked that Harley-Davidson Credit Corp. and Eaglemark Savings Bank be declared eligible for the Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program, or TLGP, which guarantees unsecured corporate debt against default. That would cover the bills of Harley-Davidson's internal financial entities if they were unable to pay bills themselves.

Casey told the York Dispatch that without the designation, “it puts their financing company in a much more precarious situation."

Four analysts — Goldman Sachs, Standard & Poor's, RBC and Raymond James — have downgraded Harley shares in as many weeks, and the company’s former HDFS president, Sy Naqvi, left the company early this month. H-D’s stock price has dropped from $80-plus per share in December 2006 to $13.70 today. (Financial markets are closed today in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.)

Against an industrywide slowdown, analysts expect Harley sales to be down 20 percent for the fourth quarter, and Raymond James analyst Joseph D. Hovorka said in a client note that sales among 55 dealers surveyed were "the softest reading ever for our survey." Sales are expected to slide another 20 percent to 30 percent this year as consumers cut purchases of luxury goods.

Harley has offered this deal lots of times over the years. It's always been seen as the entry level HD, they just blew the dust off an old idea.


I got a kick out of their BIG BOLD intro, Fer a gazillion years Harley has bin makin men outa girls legends outa me and yada yada yada! I can remember when their warranty was the worst in the business. I know because I rode one.
