Help W/ Cam cover

So I just got my new Billet 102 cam cover from the UPS man today. I'm currently trying to install it right now, but when I line it up, I can't get it past the decompression plunger (its the thing with the fins on the left side of the pic). I don't want to force it on there, but as of now, I really don't know of any other way of doing it.

Any help here?

I have not done this mod but I wouldnt force anything. If you have to take a grinder or dremel and grind down the new cover to fit, but you should not have to do that.

Hey are the covers identical? dumb question, I know, but if they are then your lever must be spring loaded or maybe if you crank the engine over it will suck in for ya, just a thought

Don't force it Try taking the fins off and putting the cover on Then replace the fins. I sure won't get sucked in *LOL*

The covers are drilled the same, but just not the same geometric shape.

Taking the fins off is no easy task. I would have to take the motor off of the arm of the decompression cylinder, and I'm not really prepeared to do that quite yet.

Anyone else install this yet?

Taking the fins off is no big chore. I have the new 102 cover also but I also have the new cover that replaces the fin one.

Where did you get the cover that replaces the fin? I don't think I've ever seen that.

You need to purchase the compresson release cover to replace the stock compression release in order to use the billet cam cover. I purchased the flame cam cover and the compression release. Watch the space between the new compression release and your pipes.

DAMMIT! I had no idea that I have to by the Compression release cover to make this fit. Well, another part that I must get.

Once you have the main cover off , take off the compression cover. put the new cam cover on. Then take the compression cover when you try to put it back on you will see the part of the compression cover that hits the cam cover. If you have a bench grinder you can grind away a little at the time until it fits again. There is only one main point of contact that you will have to grind.

If I just wanted to polish my stock cover how hard is it going to be to replace?

If you're talking about taking it off and putting it back on then you will have no problem at all. Simple bolt on installation. If you can change the batteries in your tv remote then you can do this. Now, if you're talking about replacing the part after you mess the original up, then I got an extra.

I have one on order to. I ordered the compression release cover just to make it all look better. Didn't know I needed it, though. I've had the compression release cover on there for a couple of weeks, I hope I get my cam cover soon.
