My bike just died on the highway.....
On the way home from to RI after 450 mile ride up and back to New Hampshire....55 miles into a new tank full of gas...riding along 70mph and it just dies.....now there is a 12 on the clock.
I assume it means Error Code 12.
Before I start trouble shooting.....What the **** does the 12 mean.
The motor cranks but won't start almost as if it ran out of gas.
Bad Gas??? clogged gas filter??????
Died within 5 miles of a friend's house, Used his pickup and I just got the bike home 1am.........[V]

OK....I just read the Service Manual...
Fault Code 12: Faulty crankshaft position sensor signal

The manual states if no normal signals are recieved from the crankshaft position sensor the ECU will stop the engine "by stopping the injection and ignition"......Yea that I know...It just died.
My bike is an 04 with 4600 miles, I guess a trip to the dealer is in order on Monday......This can't be good[V].....

Has anyone ever had this fault code before?

Nothing to do with the Bars.......there is a sensor wire that runs out the back of the clutch casing that plugs into the ECU.....check the connection under the seat.....you can find it pretty easily....just tug on the wires coming out of the clutch casing and look for the wire's under the seat that are moving....the two wires that you are looking for are white & grey.......with a small clear plug adapter.....you might have a frayed wire or loose connection. I would start there first.....

I had to replace this sensor on my bike...different symtoms but it was the crankshaft position sensor that was playing up. I know it sounds just co-insistence, but it happen just after I filled up too about 5 Miles after??????????? My problem was wrong signal at 3000rpm causing the bike to fire on the wrong cylinder..well thats what I was told.

I just got finished reading all the documentation in the service manual on fault code 12 this morning (thanks "sangathor" for posting the fault code page)I'll check for loose/frayed wires etc. first.
Does anyone know what can I expect to see if I remove (what the manual refers to as) the canister (page5-11)? Will anything fall out (held in only by the cover) and is there a gasket that would need to be relacaed? (I don't see a gasket on page 5-11)

Man what a S$%^y ending to a perfect day of riding.
