Im a old Yamaha two stroke fan. Have owned a many of RD's and a RZ-350 and 500. Along with many other sport bikes from the big four.

I havent owned any bikes in 3 years or so. Ive been trying to kick the thrill seaking habit. I get alot of ride time for not owning a bike. Buddys are always droping by with the latist thing on two wheels, or this mod or that. So I havent done without. /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

This brings me to my current purchasing move. To tell you the truth. Ive had my heart set on a 07 Dyna Super Gluide Custom. The dealer I had choosen to work with on the Harley got the bike in I wanted. I look at it and was very upset with the lack of workmanship and quality. So much so Harley has been pretty much droped from the list. From first to gone like that. Every Dyna of Softy Ive looked at has welds that look as bad as Metric bikes did in the 60's. Splatter painted over on the swing arm, orange peel paint and many other hap-hazard looking things.

This left me driving to a old friend. A Yamaha dealer. Had it in my mind,, I'll just order up a FJ1300 or work a deal on a deadly V-max. Once in the hallowed halls of a hammer dealer,,, I was home. The temtation to kill my self on a V-max left and a clear head prevailed. The dealer didnt have a Warrior or a FJ in stock. They did show me they had five Warriors on order and quoted me a price. Right at $750 off list or so. A good starting point. With the same on a FJ. They also provide bikes for test rides. They really cater more to folks that RIDE and kinda blow off those that drive bikes, if you know what I mean. /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

Anyway,,, I have one MAJOR concern about the Warrior. Ive never been a fan of forward controls. I dont like the pegs and such in the LazyBoy position at all! That position is best left in the LazyBoy as my wife hands me a plate of nachos as a football game is starting.

Is there a conversion kit to get the pegs and controls closer to a more standard position?

Also,,, the seating will have to change. My wife isnt going to ride on that little pillon of a seat. I guess this will leave me in the over priced Corbin webpage or Mustang. Neither of which Ive never been impresed with. Having the wife ride with me is important. We enjoy or romps on a bike very much. Shes a class "A" passenger and a joy to have along.

Last but not least! That thing on the exhaust system as to go before I would leave the dealer. I really do not want to get into preformance mods. If I have to I will do a new exhaust system, air intake and PCIII. But would rather not. Is there a slip on that can go on in place of the stock unit and not have to PCIII it?

Please dont take the above mentioned as complaints. Over all Ive always liked the Warrior. And it looks like if I want a big bore "V" to grunt around on then Warrior will be it. The FJ is firmly in 2nd place right now. /emoticons/emotion-1.gif None of the other Stars or any of the other metric V's need apply. It will be one of these two or nothing.

Looks like you all have a nice board here.
I wish you all the best of luck.

Keep the bars up and the shoulders off the pavement.

Welcome to the forum!

The best options for seat is probably Corbin. Get a DUal Tourer and your wife will be happy!

The stock seating position is actually a very comfortable position - depending on your size. You can move the controls further forward (which I understand you don't like) but there are no kit available to move them back. However never models (2004 & up) have a more relaxed position than earlier models.

Hope you find what you are looking for!

Most of the slip-ons you can run with stock ECU. You can also adjust the stock ECU - do a search on this forum. You will find plenty of info on that.

Hello there Psy. Sounds like you know what you want. Your issues with the Warrior are pretty much the same as many of us on here - primarily seating for passenger and the stock pipes. There are alot of choices out there and a sizable second hand market if you don't want to pay ridiculous Corbin prices for new! As for the feet forward thing, take that test ride, you'll be surprised at the seating position on a Warrior, pretty comfy. I came from a Sports Bike to the Warrior and this was my one big concern, 2 or 3 rides later I was hooked on the 'lazy boy' position.

Welcome aboard! My seating suggestion would have to be the Mustang set w/pillon, but lots of others prefer the Corbin rumble or dual tourer. You'll just have to try the stock pegs, but there are several ways to moce them a little forward, from 1 1/2" to 5" with extension kits if you want a little more room. I have the lightning 3" kit and I love it. Good luck!

psyshack, Lokks like you are doing good resarch. I have an '02', the pegs are a bit further back than on the '04 and later models. Probably about 1.5 inches. At first they seemed a bit forward to me but I got used to them in a few days. I can stand on them when going over bumpy pavement. They do seem a bit cramped after a few hours on the highway, but all things concidered they are a good comprimise for me.

Passenger set up on the first 2 years was a joke. Originally my wife was good for 20 minutes. I got passenger peg lowering kit and a Corbin Solo with Touring Pillion. She is now good for about a 350 mile day. I agree on the price of Corbin. The used to sell thru retailers and you could find discounts. Now they sell direct, keep all of the $$$$ and have jumped the prices outlandishly. In 2004 I paid $450 including shipping for mine, now it is over $900.

Regarding the pipe, It has to go.

Good luck and hope you do get a Warrior.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I got to ride a 04 Warrior this weekend. It was IMO a unkept bike. The forwards had been pushed out. It poped and stumbled some. Dude thought he had a really hot bike. I suspect his map was a all jacked up.

Anyway it got me on one. I think I can deal with the forward controls. I put about 40 miles on it. I enjoyed the brute grunt it had. It had a 240 on the rear and was near thread bare. So I couldnt tell much about the over all handeling. Other than it didnt want to turn. Infact the back tire was so center worn, I think the bike would have stayed upright without a kick stand. /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

Looking forward to spring and the 07 arrivals of Warrior at my dealer.

Welcome, just for your info, Corbin Dual Touring seats are worth the money. (Well almost) My wife loves it. You will also want the peg relocation kit, it move the passenger pegs forward and down about 3 inches. Definately improves the passenger comfort. As to mods, I don't think you'll have to change to a PCIII unless you start going wild. Search the thread for bumping the stock ECU, it can accomodate minor changes in exhaust. As to your exhaust question, yes, there are several companies, that do make slip on's to replace the rocket launcher. By the way, stock tire handles fine and will definately lean over.

Well its been a intresting week.

I went back to my Yamaha dealer >> K & N Yamaha, Tulsa. Ran into my old parts guy and the service folks where nice as ****. The dude that use to do my machine work and porting for some of my RZ's had moved on.

We went over there dyno policy's, tatics and pricing. Word spread it was the old psycho 2 stroke monster looking into a Warrior. They where like dude,,, you will love it. /emoticons/emotion-1.gif Took me back to there dynojet went thru a few Warrior maps with me. showed me some of the racing stable and some old 2 stroke love. They had two OEM RZ 350's in Yellow. Both with less than 3k miles on them. I remember when my RZ 350 was new. And then it was flash back city. The old RD's, RD/LC's and the TZ's. Gives me a woody.

Anyway they told me to purchase my bike. Take it home and mod it like I wanted then bring it back. Buy the PCIII from them for like $350 including install and AIS. Then they would dyno my map for $125.

It was like going home. /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

I have a couple of questions for the Warrior faithful.

One: Has anybody seen a Warrior in Yamaha yellow, Dayton or F1 colors? Or would the bike even look good in old yellow and black/white ladder or Yamaha's simple Daytona white/orange or there F1 colors? Reason being I really dont get into fancey custom air brush work for paint. If I want to see art I go to the local gallary. I like simple graphics,,, if you will on bikes.

Two: Is there any way around K&N filters? Ive ran K&N's for years. Fact is I have never been happy with a oil lab test with a K&N. They always show high silcates,,, ie dirt in the oil sample. And the fact is its way old tech. There has to be something better than red oil and pleats for a filter media for my bike. AEM and others have brought to market good dry syn. filter media. Is nobody working on or bringing to market a 21st centry filter media for a big sucker like a Warrior?

Three: Again on the air intake subject. I will buy my intake kit from Church Key if I cant find 21st centrey filter media high flow filters. But from what Ive seen in the big bore V twin world most of the short stack kept inside kits look like warm air intakes. That cant be good. Looks like head coolers to me. Ive seen some out board filters and some want to be ram air's.

Question being. Say you take and mount a vislosity stack,,, say like Church's and put a small 12vdc fan on the back side to keep some fresh air coming in to what looks like to me a heater V. Would this mess up the natural flow of the intake pattern.

Im sorry if this isnt the right place to ask or place these question's/idea's.

I cant wait untill the 07's start rolling in! I havent been asked to put a deposit down on a bike. And was told,, we will call you when a blue comes in. Its mine in april. Wahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has been good to be back at my Hammer dealer. And to think I was going to invest in a harley and the handicaped of the motorcycle world.

Well it seems like you are finding all the facts before you buy. There has a been at least one person on here that tried the fan idea. (May be able to find it in a search)

There are at least two bikes on here with the Kenny Roberts paint scheme. One is called Legend not sure on the other but it's in the Warrior Pics & Vids section.
As for your tech ?'s you may want to put a post up in the tech section, more people will find it.
Welcome & hope you get a bike soon.
